new to the list of things that i am not good at: caulking.

aside from that, preparations for moving are going fairly well. everything of value has been removed from the apartment, in case ramsey squared gets confiscation-happy (many thanks to those parties who are providing storage space), the air conditioner has been disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled, and most other potential trouble spots have been checked and repaired. it's kind of weird doing all of this without having actually done much packing (appearance of intent to move being among the evil trigger clauses in my ridiculous leasing contract), but i don't see myself having a lot of time to do this stuff next week, and cleaning the coils on an air conditioner with a toothbrush is fairly time-consuming. given my lack of organizational skills, i'm always better at packing than i expect, but there tends to be a larger puttering around factor than i would like. not knowing my moving schedule complicates things somewhat as well. i'd like to start packing my car, but i'm not even sure what goes where yet, and at this point my week's schedule is dependent on the welding skills of an unreliable mechanic in giddings, texas, and my mad scientist employer of same.

if anyone has tips for dealing with slumlords, they would be most welcome. most specifically, tips on what to expect charges for upon moving out- my slumlord has a reputation for sending $1000+ bills to people upon vacancy for cleaning and damages, and i'm doing my best to settle this without having to run him over or throw him in a pit of quicklime. although i would get some satisfaction from both.
