“We were just heading to dinner. I hope you’ll be joining us.” Keller interjected before McCoy could finish his sentence.
“I have some work I need to finish.” McCoy tried, though the empty state of the Sickbay itself just weakened his attempt.
“Don’t make your Captain order you.” Keller answered, some attempt at a joke but the sharpness of his eyes took away from the effect. He turned, nodding to Kirk as he left.
Kirk frowned after the man, turning to speak when McCoy brushed past him as well. “Bones-“
“You heard the man.” McCoy answered briskly, a hint of bitterness in his tone.
Kirk watched him retreat, standing still a moment with the same frown on his lips. The exchange was strange but more so the look McCoy hadn’t been able to hide when he first caught sight of the Admiral, something far too shocked and hunted for the stubborn man’s face. His suspicion was now a full blown bad feeling on the matter, and one growing steadily worse as he stepped out of the sickbay himself and after them.
