Yule, and costume thoughts

Last Saturday was our Baronial Yule, and it was an enjoyable if brief evening of good folks and great food - potluck style. There were many folks there I didn't know or knew minimally, and I'm not a social butterfly so I kinda stayed around some of the ladies and gents that I knew. Sadly, a few friends did not attend, one was sick and her husband

Kingdom Level Awards

I, being one of the aforementioned friends, have a fair idea why you do not have all the arts awards. It is not because the quality of you work is not there. It *is* there. It is awesome. It is stunning. The blind can see it.

It is partly becuase we have virtually no Kingdom presence which is usually necessary for Kingdom level awards. We see a King or Queen once or twice every 3 to 4 years. And the current thinking in the Barrony is to not send away to the Crown to have awards to give out in abstentia on Anniversary. (Which I disagree with.)

Also, sometimes you are not present at the times we do have Royal Presence. Also, the current Baroness may think it is more of a priority to get the Award of Arms and "hang in there" awards out to people becuase the Crown, even though it may not have been out this way in years, will tell us straight up they will not award more than "X" awards, "X" being about 5 to 8. Because you don't play at local every event like some do, you were not seen as an "essential" award recipient in the beginning. I have since raised hell that it is criminal that you don't at least have the entry level award.

Let me assure you that it is deeply shaming to me that I have both Kingdom level awards, the Harp Argent and the Lux Caidis and you have neither. I would dearly love to give you one or both of mine to recognize your beautiful work, gractious sharing of knowledge and thoughful spirit.

(And I look forward to the day when you *are* a Laurel, which you will be.)

Yeah you are on LJ!!

Thank you for your insight into all this. It helps, makes sense, and is eye opening. I knew my not being very active hasn't helped my situation any, which is why this upcoming year I hope to be more active if I can afford to do so.

And Miriel, you have earned every award you have. I see how much you have shared your knowledge with everyone, all the hard work you have put into all you do, the work you have done for your friends, that you are an inspiration to me.
