Gone, Back and Why?

I have been away from the net for a few days. Spent a couple of days doing a Small family mini-vacation in N. CA, doing the Sac Train Museum and Discovery Kingdom in Vallejo. More on that later.

Having spent two days away from my sewing project, I am now in a mad sewing rush to get it all done by next week. I am taking a mental break from doing up one sleeve, as my mind tries to figure the best way to insert the wire into the sleeve casing without mangling it. TT book is all hand sewn, and Margo's method doesn't use wire and casing and is machine sewn, so it is up to me to figure out how.

But the point of this post is this rant...
During this break, I am reading up on my old emails. I then read something that made me wonder WTF!??

Why do some people insist on using their historical ren-faire character name in their email posts? Really... is your real name really the same as the prominent historical person you happen to have signed off with? Or are you in the SCA and really are a Lady Historical Name, as I thought that wouldn't pass the SCA Heradry rules? And I am really, really, really hoping you are not a member of the Royal Scots guild that name is associated with, which means you are in the guild whose GM claims his Historical Name as a Duke last I heard (when Historical Name was a well known Knight and Ambassador to Elizabeth I court). And I know he likes being known by his full historical character name, with full faux titles and honorifics, because he is a well known nut case and we have known this for decades!

Please note: If you are in the SCA and are fond of your SCA name, and that is what everyone knows you by (including me), I have no problem with this. It just bugs me when people sign off on modern emails with actual historical names *BECAUSE* of the GM association. I think for me, I would rather know who *you* are, not the name of the character you've been assigned to play this faire season. OK? Thanks.

Rant off my chest, and now back to sewing.

renfaire, rant, personal
