I don't know if have seen these yet, but I just came across them in Andrew Sullivan's blog, who pointed to another blog, who pointed to where they are housed, including the Library of Congress, and wikimedia commons.
They are the first color photos, from Russian Empire, early 20th c.. This blog explains them a bit,

While this is not my time period or country of normal study, I found the photos just fascinating, especially in how vivid the colors of the clothing.
