For my second batch of soap, I decided to stick to the basic 1 pound recipe (from the book I am using), using olive oil & coconut oil, with a bit of castor oil to help with the lather. Trying to keep it simple, I decided to use the Sandlewood fragrance oil as the only other additive. Ah, I love the smell, and I hope the guys like the smell, too.
This time I am using the silicone mold, the various shaped 4-well plastic mold I got from Joanns, and my little cat mold which will be my tester piece for each batch. Have I mentioned I love the smell? I have some on my hands and it smells lovely, and I didn't even touch it directly.
The batch cooked quicker this time, being pretty much done & ready for the additives at the half-hour mark. It must be due to the coconut oil. The caster oil was added with the fragrance oil.
Note from last time, the glass mold will stick if I only use Pam spray, even chilled, so line with freezer paper next time. It took a couple of hours, and a bit of drumming from Rob, to let gravity allow the soap to come out. Also note that pure olive oil soaps do not have much lather, but does work really well in cleaning greasy hands. It is also whiter than I had expected, with a very light yellow shade to the soap.
