Japan marks anniversary of Hiroshima atomic bomb
My dad would remind me every year about the bombing of Pearl Harbor. Well... my Mom hardly mentioned but a few times that Hiroshima (and then Nagasaki) was bombed before the end of the war.
Mom, because she was still a "child", was sent to live with her family in the far north of the Hokkaido islands, to keep her safe (according to my Dad). She still saw the blasts from a distance, and her face was freckled all the rest of her life, as she told me she looked outside a window when they wondered what that bright light was. That freckling I believe was part of the radiation blast that hit, as normally in her family, and even in the few surviving pics of her when she was a child, she was not freckled growing up.
So, now I try to remember the bombings, in her memory. And I am not a fan of nuclear weapons, for obvious reasons.
