SCA meme
The first time I saw this meme, I passed as I was very new to the SCA. But now I have a little more than a year under my belt (oooh, so long now), so here's my short answers
1. What is your SCA Name?
Joane Silvertoppe
2. What time and where do you portray?
Mostly England of the 16th century. But I am willing to experiment in garment styles as the time/style strikes me.
3. In plain English describe your device.
I have no device at this time. One I have been thinking about has an open book in the middle, with three roses (not tudor ones, just regular ones) somewhere in the mix. No ideas on colors or metals.
4. How long have you been in the SCA?
My first event was many years ago, in '86, near the beginnings of Sir Guy's keep. I missed the tourney, but enjoyed the party at night. But joining then was not to be. So, my first real event was Nordwache's Anniversary a year and a half ago. I understand Duke Sir Guy's castle is really nice now.
5. Do you have any special titles you have earned?
None.
6. What kingdom and local group do you belong to?
Caid, Barony of Nordwache.
7. Do you have preferred colors for your SCA Persona?
No.
8. What is your war that you look forward to going to every year?
I have yet to attend a full WAR. But it appears that Great Western is NOT in conflict with Hanford RoK, so I am planning on attending (the weekend portion).
9. Do you hold any offices?
Currently, Deputy Exchequer, but I've yet to do much other than take the "required" class for it.
10. Favorite memory from an event?
No favs yet.
11. Are you a fighter?
If I had joined when I was younger, I might have been a fighter. But not now.
12. Are you crafty (making things)?
Yes.
13. Do you teach classes at events?
I have taught at one Academia event so far. One class, attended by One person, who was not an SCA member. Not sure if I will teach next time, as what I know, is later period than what other people are interested in.
14. Do you play instruments at events?
No. But I may use my singing voice someday.
15. Do you dance at events?
I would love to, if we can get a group of people to do country dances.
16. Do you feel that there is enough flirting and chivalrous behavior in the SCA?
I have yet to see this, except for one or two people at Angel's Anniversary who were doing the flirting bit on overkill.
17. Are you a "Black Hat" or a "White Hat"?
I presume White Hat means a "good guy" type? Then I would be a white hat.
18. What is one of the reasons you've remained in the SCA?
Hmmm... I joined to find more people interested in researching costume stuff, and other things I find interesting, like scribal stuff, or embroidery. While I've found such people who have helped, in some areas, I am still alone in my research, with more contact with LJ and mailing list people than some of my local folks.
19. What peerage(s) do you aspire to?
Laurel, as a far off goal. While it may be one of those questions that must not be answered (damned if you do or don't), if this wasn't a part of my future goals, than I won't do much to try to achieve it eventually. Whether I am found worthy is up to other people to decide if my skills, knowledge, etc. is good enough. I will just enjoy the work. And for now, the way I am looking at it... I want to eventually be considered a Master at my trade (costumes), which doesn't really translate to Laurel from what I understand. To know my craft well is what I prefer, and the other fun stuff I like to do. The rest is nice, but not necessary.
20. Who was Crown when you joined the SCA?
