Kirtle refit

One more item done for tonight, the refitting of my Tudor kirtle.

I took in 5 inches!!! Well, 5" at the waist, and about 4" at the chest. I took the area behind the side eyelets in the back, so I didn't have to touch the front silk area. After I got it on for the test fitting after double sewing up of the side back, my husband measured my waist area... 37". My goodness, I haven't seen anything under 40" in a long time, and that measurement was over the boning and canvas layers. And yes, the kirtle is now snug to my body and supportive, still. Thankfully, I did not have to take in the shoulder straps, but they are a bit looser now.

I am also thankful that the gown, which overlaps the bodice, will hide the side and back seams, as it looks pretty bad there. I also had to redo the entire back of the skirt to fit onto the smaller measurement back there, so I put in cartridge pleats instead of rolled pleats, as there is now too much fabric for decent rolled pleats, which is what I had originally.

And that reminds me that I need to add a layer of wool to pad out my gown pleats when I work on those tomorrow night.

I just have to sew on the kirtle jewels, and attach the upper kirtle sleeves a bit, and make a couple of eyelets for my foresleeves to thread through. I should get that all done tomorrow during nap time. Then it will be on to refitting the gown bodice. I also have to find the simple girdle I had made up and decided against wearing around 12th Night last. It has to be around somewhere, although where exactly remains the mystery.

Well, off to bed, and hopefully some sleep.
