Loose kirtle update

Sep 02, 2007 23:41

I just wanted to post something on the loose kirtle I am working on.

I have sewn up all the major seams, except for the shoulder seams on the outside fabrics. I've also sewn down the black cord I decided to use over the front two seams. It gives the edge a hard finish that I like, but isn't too decorative. No sense for that when it will mostly be hidden. The straight edges have been trimmed a bit with my pinking shears so they won't unravel too badly, even tho the lining will cover things. I also trimmed down the heavy canvas at the seams.

I spent the few hours of Maurelle's nap time to cut, hand sew and press the black silk fabric I will be using for bias binding. I tried to use my bias tape maker, but having only cut up 1" strips (as the bias tape maker directions called for), the maker really didn't do too well. Next time, the strips will be wider, much wider. As I don't need the tape to be wide, I will make do with what I have instead of cutting up more strips. I have plenty for the armholes, the sleeve tops, and the neckline/back opening.

The hem will be made from cross cut black velveteen which I hope to cut soon, but not tonight.
