Sleeves in progress

Ah, finally enjoyed some more hand sewing, and it looks like I am getting some progress done on my kirtle and sleeves. I really should take a photo of them, but for now words will have to suffice.

I am finally putting the pieces together, and making them look pretty as well. I spent this afternoon pressing and clipping various seams on the whole kirtle. I realized as I was doing this that I have no idea if they pressed or clipped their seams in period, I suspect not, but that's what I am used to doing, so that is what I did anyway.

I've been working on the sleeves, by sewing the sleeve wrists together. I also added in a pretty gold and black thin cord to the seams and around the wrist using black silk thread. I then did a running stitch near the wrist to keep the lining hidden (thank you mc_cadieux for sharing your work). Finally, I basted the upper opening in prep for the binding. I've done one sleeve so far, and it is pretty and sparkly in just a subdued manner befitting the rest of the fabric. I then started the cording on the second sleeve as well, and have sewed up the wrist together.

And sometime tomorrow I need to hunt down some more of this cord, if my local dealers have it or anything close, because I don't think I have enough to also do up the kirtle proper, or I would be very, very close. If not, then I will have to use something else completely different for the kirtle proper, which I do have a trim that is also gold and black that may work. I would have bought more cord when I did buy this, but Hedgehog only had the one package left, and it looked so promising.

And we also went through three episodes of Eureka while I sat sewing and Rob worked on his computer. I really enjoy this quirky show. Now if only TiVo would stop "sticking" when we are watching live TV. It just did that again, which makes it twice today. I am getting tired of resetting the whole thing just to deal with it.

Well, off to put my stuff away before I head off to bed.
