News of an old... person I knew from faire.

I had heard some time ago, at Visalia Faire I think it was, that Teddy (no, not England's Teddy, but Northern CA ren-faire Teddy) had left St. Andrews for a new guild.

This was the Teddy (he prefers Theodore, if he has to be called by his mundane name) that had a hand in forming a few other guilds at small faire, and who has helped to populate many, if not most, of the faire actors and guilds currently and previously at faire, especially the scottish guilds. My former guild, HFOClan MacLeod, and one other, Clan Ian Abroch (the original Scottish ren-faire clan at small faires), were the only Scottish guilds that were formed prior to Teddy leaving St. Gregory's guild and forming St. Andrews. And then all the Scottish guilds that formed by his former members who left his control. It seems St. Andrews continues on without him now as well.

Side track here, I find it a bit of prideful thinking, but I am happy to say our guild was formed prior to Teddy's Scottish influx. But I do remember a story our first GM had about Teddy being drunk and rolled into a carpet at faire, and other stories. We used to do Scots confrontations with Teddy's St. Gregory's guild long before they ended up morphing into Chris' Knights of St. John of Jerusalem and Diane's St. Gregory's. We also used to call him "Tassle Teddy" for the plethora of tassles he used to give out as favors, a great gig with the crowd, btw.

Well, getting back on subject... on a mailing list today, I found the proper link for the guild name, and went looking on the Internet.

Yep, he's now Guild Master of Saint Gyles Renaissance Guild. Poking around (the photos download very slowly, btw) I found a few images of him, and that he now styles himself as "Prince James Stewart" (emphasis mine). I guess being a Duke wasn't enough for him. Mind you, his former character was in history only a simple Knight and Ambassador to QE.

The other amusing thing... he's found a Gay Linn Kirkpatrick clone as his new Mary Queen of Scots. Honest, she looks a LOT like Gay Linn, who now does Southern Faire as their Queen Elizabeth I.

You can compare the two here
Teddy's new Queen Mary
Gay Linn as Queen Elizabeth (warning large file... go down and to the right to find the lady in red with the crown.)

Why I find this amusing, for those who don't know the history, Gay Linn started faire (or soon after starting faire) portrayed Teddy's Mary QoS for a few years before she split to form Royal Stuarts, and continued to portray Mary QoS for several more years (we Scots loved our Queen Mary). They then went their separate ways, she moved from Fresno to the SF East Bay area, joined Northern Faire, auditioned and won the spot to play their QE, then the next year won the audition to portray Southern Faire's QE (much to Patty's chagrin), juggled both faires for a some years before Northern was sold off. She then moved to LA to continue playing QE at Southern Faire, and is pursuing her acting career passion.

She had once commented to me that she had seen Teddy at a faire hanging around court, watching her. While I know Teddy has had a number of MQoS work for him, to find another after all these years that looks so much like Gay Linn, is really rather amusing to me. I wonder if I should let Gay Linn know?
