So, when I got back from the Baronial meeting, I came in here, read some emails, then proceeded to cut into my lining fabric.
I think I cut the sleeves a little too long (I may have mis-measured), but I won't really know until I put the lining together as a mockup. I may just snip the end a bit, instead of making the proper adjustments... or I might just put a fold in the lining fabric, and adjust the pattern for the main material.
But the body of the fabric appears to be just right in length, coming to the top of my feet in the front, which is where I want it. I don't want this to be dragging in the grass or mud, and I don't mind my feet being seen. The gown will be a little longer (about a half inch to an inch). I do plan on putting it on and double checking the length before I sew on the velvet guards, so if I have to I can fudge it a little lower.
So, tomorrow I will start in on sewing the lining together, so I can fit it on me. I think I will do a quick baste first, check, then go from there. I know already that the neckline will have to be adjusted, as it is too tight for my neck. But knowing I will bind that, I think I will wait on adjusting it until the main fabric is sewn together, then baste the neckline and adjust both at once.
And I keep debating... black silk binding at neck and armholes, or the linen/cotton beige which will blend right in? Jane's loose kirtle had the black silk binding (I don't have a photo of it), and I thought it was striking. I am just not positive which I want to do. Well, I have time to decide.
Well, off to bed, and some rest before tomorrow morning gets here...
