Found some interesting things.

I don't know who to share this with (as in which mailing list, if any), so I am just going to post this here for now.

I was downloading a large pdf of Stubbes Anatomy of Abuses (thanks Google books), when I decided to wander the V&A Museum's online collection. I found the blackworked smock that I know is on Drea Leed's site, along with a shirt cuff of blackwork as well.

However, the smock has one photo I've not seen before, ok, well, two photos. One of the back view, and one view from the top of the blackwork portion of the smock in its component pieces!!! I think they're even showing the square underarm gussets! Or at least that's my guess of the two squares with a single (Tudor?) rose on each.

You can't direct link from here, but you can go to this site
http://images.vam.ac.uk
Then enter in this number to see the smock.
T.113-1997

For the blackworked shirt cuff, which they state as being stitched in cross stitch, enter this number in the above search form
T.112-1972
I would love to see the whole shirt. At least one can buy photos of the shirt and the smock for a better look.

Other blackwork items of interest:
Forehead cloth: T.42-1938
cap/coif: T.27-1975
Blackworked square: T.219-1953
These are in QEWU (I think), so I've seen them before.

And for those of you who've seen these already, up close and personal... it's exciting and new for me, ok?

blackwork, embroidery, museum, shirt, smock, tudor
