Healthy Lifestyle, Vanity or Routine?

The first thing that many do not know about me, is that I am a real creature of habit. Those who have tried to get me out on a Monday, Wednesday or Friday will know. I have even been quoted as saying that I would miss a friend's wedding dinner, if it fell on one of those days. What do I do? I hit the gym.

While hitting the gym started with the objective of getting ready for National Service, it is one of those things that have stuck with me, together with swimming. It is now so much part of my routine and life, that I would feel lost without it. I remember how lost and depressed I was, when I was down with Bronchitis in Shanghai, and had to skip the gym. Sure I could go shopping and eating, but it was like someone ripped the heart out of me.

Why do I still hit the gym, now that I am no longer preparing for National Service (that passed long ago), and I am not even liable for IPPT. Is it for a healthy lifestyle? Probably not, since I could get away with swimming and shorter workouts. Vanity? If it really were, I would be working harder at getting my 6-packs, rather than trying to push 100kg. It has to be routine...
