Working Out and Supplements

May 05, 2007 00:15

There has been some talk on livejournal about supplements and working out, so I thought I might as well give my two cents worth. Was also asked about supplements recently. I do have a strange workout and supplementation plan, but that is just me and due to my schedule. I hit the gym normally three nights a week, on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, right after work, and do not get done until 2100hrs. With that, I usually have a liquid dinner in the gym, in the form of my protein shake, which I consume after I finish my dose of creatine. I take both in small gulps, so it takes me more than 90 minutes to finish both. The positive thing, is that it sustains me through my workout. I do not eat dinner after my workout, but might take a serving of non-fat fruit yoghurt when I reach home.

Am I over-training? Am I taking enough protein? I really do not know, and my supplementation regime is largely empirical. I have realized that with protein and creatine supplementation, I do recover better from bouts of not working out (due to my frequent overseas trips). The liquid dinner is out of convenience, since eating a dinner before my workout would mean that I would have to delay the start of of workout, leaving less time in the gym. No dinner thereafter, is due to the fact that I usually sleep not long after getting home, so I do not need more carbohydrates. Hence the slowly-assimilated protein in the form of yoghurt...

Other days? I eat pretty much as normal. No supplements, even though I swim...
