CD Rot

A while ago, I mentioned my frustration at unplayable CDs not due to scratches or poor handling, but those that have faded in time. I now realize with some checks, that it is a phenomenon that has plagued quite a few. There are a few different related phenomena, including bronzing, mould or fungus attack, fading of the reflective layer, or reaction of the printed layer with the disc.

Bronzing seems to have affected discs produced by PDO in Britain. The discs in my collection that have faded, have all been produced by Discovery Systems. The most severe cases have involved a total fade and disappearance of the reflective layer, resulting in discs that look like transparent discs printed with CD-title. Apparently, it affects warm and moist climates more adversely.

I wonder if anyone has experienced issues similar to this in Singapore?

On a more positive note, I have finished my archival of my music collection, which currently comes to more than 725 GB of data and 28000 songs.
