droppin some morning science on belinda carlisle

i'm kind of impressed by belinda carlisle's "mad about you" video. for a video c. 1985, it shows some restraint. there are only about 4 different "scenarios"-- beach, bedroom, backyard, and car. (hmm..but maybe videos didn't get scenario-bloated till '87...but anyway.)

belinda goes for a "classic" look that is all about her blonde bob and black clothes, some hoop earrings, boring-looking boyfriend. i *feel* belinda dancing on the beach in a black turtleneck, or dancing in the bedroom while wearing cavaricci-esque slacks and a bra top. this look says-- "hey look at me i am no longer a chubby coked-up punk rocker with immature new wave clothes." for that, though, i am sad. hey we all have to change. but if i could freeze her in the "head over heels" video, i would. i would. and of course the one with the fountain.

the backyard scene is mainly some generic-looking white guitar dude, also with a blonde bob, shredding an understated solo on his ax *while sitting on a white metal lawn chair.* it is the kind that is forged into a crisscross design (think a checkerboard without the squares filled in. and not the woven seatbelt-material chairs.) this chair was the precursor to the generic white plastic lawn chairs we have now. i tried to find a picture, but i think they no longer exist, and no one bothered to take a picture of them in the '80s and post it online now. go figure. i had forgotten that such chairs existed until now, when i am flooded with sweet sweet memories of those rusted-out Kmart chairs populating my tiny '80s patio and carving the backs of my legs with that fly crisscross design.
