Heh. I'm all too aware of the irony of those examples. I'm no better than most anyone else. In fact, both of those examples were of me. Things I've thought at various times throughout my life, things that I justified with my own sense of entitlement.
I know we're only a few hundred years past the "dark ages," but I don't think things have changed as much as you think. I think the general populace has grown complacent, thinking itself wise. There isn't a struggle for truth, reason, and understanding any more. People simply fight for their "rights." Rights that they've yet to earn. Rights that shouldn't be given simply for drawing air and occupying space.
Anyway, yes. You're right, it's only been a little while. Perhaps my expectations are a skosh high. I just wish I saw the effort. I'd quit bitching quite so much if I felt like society, as a whole, TRIED to enlighten itself, instead of stewing in its own ignorance.
