I'm so done with humanity. No, really. Done.
Fact: our race is beyond salvation. We learned faster than we matured. We have a civilization that is completely "me" oriented. True, it's common knowledge that stealing from or inflicting harm upon another person is WRONG, but ... does that really stop us? It's sick the limits people will make for themselves.
Take, for instance, the shoplifter. In his mind, it's okay that he steals; the employees aren't personally going to pay for the theft, and the only real loss comes from the company, which is making millions. They won't miss that one DVD. Stealing from a person, however, is wrong. ... This is total crap. Stealing is stealing. It still wasn't yours to take ... yet you took it.
The liar will set standards for his lies. "Sure, I lie about little things, but I ALWAYS tell the truth when it counts." Or perhaps, "I'll lie to my boss, but not to my family." Maybe even, "I only lie to avoid a fight." I saw a movie once that said the following: "Be it a rock or a grain of sand, in water they sink as the same." How true that is. You never know which lie will be the one that completely changes somebody's life. Why change someone's life around over a falsehood?
Sigh. I've gotten off track. Our world is doomed, and it's because we're a part of it. I hate to sound overly political or paranoid, but ... look at the fucking nuclear situation. How many countries have nuclear weapons? A bomb that can wipe out a city in the blink of an eye. And they're all aimed at other countries, other potential threats. I feel like it's Battle Royale all over again. A bunch of kids, scared the others will betray them, each with horrible weapons at the ready. At least in that movie, the kids really WOULD have died if they hadn't fought. Us? What's our excuse?
We don't have one. We're not mature enough to wield the powers we've been given. We're still so tribal, so primitive. We resort to force when we can't agree on random little things. We hoard power and money. We each convince ourselves that we're different; we're not like that. ... But we are.
And don't even get me started on religion. Almost every civilization has had some semblance of religion ... and they're all goofy. Seriously goofy. Perhaps they were useful back in the day as a way of maintaining order within society. For instance, instilling a fear of eternal damnation into the hearts of murderers, thieves, and the general ne'er-do-well.
I just wish we were past that. I wish we were at a point where each person would say, "Hey, I think I'll not do that simply because it's wrong. Society will fall apart if nobody follows the rules. Let's not infringe upon the rights of others." As is, we have rights that we really haven't earned. Democracy has failed, as people as a whole don't do what's best for themselves. People will do what they can get away with, citing their own personal code of ethics as justification.
Fuck Earth. I hate this stupid species, and I genuinely want no part of it. We're too corrupt for ANY government to work. I would welcome some alien authority, some species that has moved beyond our petty squabbles and problems. I highly doubt they'd want anything to do with us, though. Not if they were truly enlightened.
We've got about fifty years left, if we're lucky. ... If we're unlucky, we've got even more.
