I'm gonna have to go on an ironic limb and vote for the Pokemon Trainer. He seems like a very diligent character who knows how to fill in for your mistakes. He seems to fit your specifics as well. =3

I actually thought of Poke`mon Trainer, too. Someone who can calmly balance you out in an accepting, fun-loving way, who's independent and ready to jump into something (with common sense).

I'm having a hard time picking between Pokemon Trainer, Yoshi, and Pikachu for your match, since they all seem to fit your answers pretty well. I think I'm going to have to go with Yoshi, though, since he's fun-loving, cuddly, optimistic, and kind, and I also see Yoshis as being pretty protective, which matches your "stop me from doing stupid things" answer. :)
