Title: Nothing Expected

Fandom: Fantastic Beast (and where to find them) The Crimes Of Gridewald and The Danish Girl

Characters: Newt Scamander/Lili Elbe (Einar Wegener), Pickett (Bowtruckles), omc

Warning: Crossover, transsexual, stirring  from original plots

A/N: Written from the prompt at 1_million_words weekend challenge; Character A accidently drinks a love potion and falls for B. Actually I had got another scenario, but it didn’t spook as much.

When this is fiction, I’ve taken liberties with mixing the years a little, and happenings. I know the films does not take place at the same time in Paris, but nearly. I also of legitim reason haven’t seen the second movie of FB, as this is written 4 November 2018 and the film had premier 16 November 2018. If it had taken place at the same time and been reality who knows if the characters/people could have meet.

I might have missed some special vocabulary that usually is in HP books, but sometimes it hard to remember or spell them right.

Word count: 1818, Svensk version 1745 - Unbetad

Paris 1930

Newt knew he was there on a special mission, but he needed some time for himself as well. And at the moment, it was quite quiet with information about Grindewald, so Newt decided to go to one of the galleries. He had heard that it was talked about how well the artist and model were.

He came there shortly after it opened. There were not any other visitors there yet which suited him perfectly. After walked around for one lap in the gallery, he stopped in front of one painting, one among the smaller ones, but it clearly addressed him best. He could agree that the model was something very special and that many with him could watch her for hours.

How long he stood and looked at the picture, or when he had got a company, he had no idea. The person was standing behind him and Newt knew when he was aware that he was scrutinised. He didn’t understand why. At first he turned his head a little to the left to look over his shoulder, but was not met by anything but the wall across the room. So, in other words, the person was standing to the right behind him, and when Newt did not want to scare him, he stood still and looked through the fringe over his right shoulder.

The person looked like to be older than him and it was not easy to say if it was a man or woman. The person was wearing bright clothes and pants, around his neck wearing a rose-colored scarf. Newt pulled a little on his lips, if he did not completely mistake, the person was the model in question, which was his company now. In the flesh, she looked better, albeit a little pale and narrow.

"Are you familiar with the fact that you are admiring yourself?" Newt asked when the silence had been too long.

"No, actually, it's the first time I'm here since Gerda had her opening. I thought it was time to see how they presented the paintings." She looked worried, not completely satisfied.

"They have done a good job. Not least Gerda, who painted you, because you are Lili, aren’t you?"

A shy smile, and a nick confirm that Newt was right.

"Lili, what do you say about going to have a cup of tea, if you have nothing else for you?"

She nodded and followed him to one of the nearby cafes. Although both were shy in their own way, they soon came to talk as if they’d knew each other for several years. Newt thought she was interesting, but something was not as he expected. For a moment, Newt wished he had been a Legilimens, and was able to read her thoughts. All he could hope for was if they would continue to meet, then learn what was disturbing him about her. Another thought that came upon him was if he had only had a little bit easier with people, so it would probably have gone a lot better.

All to soon, Lili said she had to go.

"I would love to meet you again. You are ... " Newt silenced, searching for the right word.

Lili put a hand on his, and looked straight into his eyes. "I want to see you again too, what you say if we do that as the day after tomorrow at Librarie Joseph, Boulevard St Michel 26-30, 12 o'clock?"

"It would work well." Newt quickly looks away as if he heard something. "Wait." Quickly, he bends down as of looking for something in his suitcase, which he was in sort of one way, makes a hushes. He brings out his magic wand and a pendant. Quickly, Newt pronounces a spell over it.

"Here," Newt presents a leather strap with a pendant to Lili. "Should you need me somehow, take the pendant in your hand and think of me, and I promise I'll know where you are and come."

Somewhat questioned or rather skeptical that such a thing would work, Lili still accepted it. "Thanks". She gets up, "See you the day after tomorrow, it's been a nice time."

"I think so too. See you." Newt followed her with his eyes until it no longer was possible. Then he went out and as soon as he should not make a scene he apparated.

Much earlier than he had counted, Newt felt that Lili sought him. Surprised, he apperated. She was laying in a foster position, in a pavilion in one of the parks.

"Lili, what’s happened? Who has done this to you?" The questions ran out of him when he saw which condition she was in. Someone or more had went on her like a punchbag.

"Help!" whimpred Lili.

"I'm here to help you." Newt looked around and the park seemed deserted. "Okay, this will seem strange, but ..." Newt moved his hand over Lili's face and made her fall asleep. Then he brought her into his suitcase.

He rumbled about the ingredients of his plants and magic drinks. Soon he had a few things ready. Newt took a cloth, soaked it and dried up dirt and dried blood from Lilis face. Then he lubricated the wounds with the ointment he made. Carefully he felt over her body, making sure that nothing would be broken. Below the waist he stopped. Look up to find out that she was still sleeping and opened her pants. Newt bit his tongue. Lili was not a female. He quickly closed his pants, went to his corner with potions, took one and poured into a mug.

Moaning from the other person made him jump. Quickly he tried to gather himself and do what he needed, to help another being. Took a mug and sat down next to the bed he laid Lili on.

A couple of scared eyes looked at him. Even pain was showing there.

"Du kom." She said, but Newt did not understand what. "You found me."

"Of course, you did what I said you to do. Drink this, it will help you feel better soon."

Newt waited. "What happened?"

Lili looked around, gave a quick glance at Newt and then put her eyes to the floor. "Where am I? Were I away for a long time? What are you?"

"If I answer your questions, can you please answer mine?"

Lili nodded, but avoided meeting Newt's eyes. Newt took her mug to both fill with water and give her a little more time. At the same time he drank his mug.

"You are with me, in my home. I have this magic suitcase where I keep several magical creatures. I’d put you to sleep, so I could bring you here more easily without hurting you anymore. I'm a magicologist, a wizard. Normally, I take care of lots of magical creatures." Newt made a break and then spurted out,"and I love you."

Lili's eyes had grown large and at the last Newt said, she sat straight up and tried to push herself against the wall.

"No, do not be afraid, the last thing I would do is hurt you."

Lili did not move and was completely still. Newt approached, just wanted to embrace and kiss her.

"Stop, let me go! I want to go home. NOW!"

"Please don’t be afraid. That's the least I want you to be. I really love you. I could never live without you." Newt made several attempts to get Lili calm after she started to resist. It was almost like a fight when Lili managed to get past him.

"If you say you love me, then you can listen to me. Let me go. Let me get home. I feel good now. This is far too overwhelming. Please." Lili tried to defend himself and hoped Newt would catch his sense. Everything was all absurd for her.

She had to continue and pray for a while before he stopped so that he could talk a little more sensibly. Eventually he agreed to let Lili go home, just as long as he had to come to her door and know that something did not happen to her on the way.

Four days later

Lili had been showered with flowers, clothes and various other things for three days. Newt had not given up. Not only was Lili tired of the awakening, or alone. Gerda and Hans had somehow managed to get him arrested on the third day. Which probably was the best thing for them all.

Newt was ashamed. Of the recent days, he had no clear idea of what actually had happened. The last thing that was clear was when he arrived, saving Lili in the park, then the rest was like in a fog. Someone had got him out of the custody of the police and given him an antidote. He was very grateful for that. When he was back as himself, he first learned that the help he got was a Auror, Jacques, And he informed him what he had done. Second thing he done was to  investigate why it happened. What he found out was that in his eagerness to help Lili, along with his discovery of her, he had taken the wrong bottle of drink and poured into his mug. He had grabbed an old bottle of love potion.

Instead of him, Jacques had fixed so the couple Wegner and Hans Axgil was obliviated, which meant that Newt didn’t know if Lili remembered him at all. In order not to make it more complicated, or expose the magic world, he didn’t send anything in apology, which he would have wanted to do.

Soon after five o’clock he was at the gallery. He had decided to see if at least he could buy the painting he admired. The owner lit up and said it would suit him. With the painting wrapped under his arm and just about to leave, the owner came after him.

"I was nearly about to forget, I have a letter to you."

Newt welcomed it. Said goodbye. Outside he apperated to the park he’d found Lili in. Sat down on a bench to read the letter.

'My dear Newt,

Forgive me that I did not appear at Librarie Joseph as agreed. Something came in between. I'm taking a chance that you've come by the gallery when I don’t know your address. I would like to thank you for our pleasant chat together. I would love to get another chance, and forgive me if you had to sit and wait for me. If you still wish to meet me, feel free to send a message if you do not see this too fancy.

With warm greetings

Lili Elbe'

Newt folded the letter, put it in his chest pocket. Mr Pickett clung to his hand.

"What do you say, shall we see if we can catch Grindewald?!"
