I think that was only for the welcoming party, it was bound to be a bit more ridiculous that it usually is.

I saw an entire family all wearing cowboy hats!

All part of the celebration for Roger, I'm sure President Michael wanted everything to be as patriotic as possible.

Also it's not like you saw an entire family running around waving and firing guns.

[He hopes.]

There were a lot of toy guns at the celebration, but I guess that's not the same...

Your grandfather was very much a mad scientist. His archnemesis somehow got through all of his life and got a doctorate with the last name Hell.

So yes. Sometimes real life is just like it is on TV. But more often than not, it isn't. No, it's even stranger.

Grandpa wasn't mad! He was just a scientist!

I never said it was a bad thing. Mad scientists always seem to be able to make amazing breakthroughs on a shoestring budget nine times out of ten.

But do admit it. The guy had a whole speech about a machine that could be a god or a devil. You don't get much more mad scientist-y than that.

... Okay, Dr. Hell's more mad scientist-y. I'll give you that much.

Anyone would talk like that when unveiling something as amazing as the Mazinger!

It is in fact not just America!

It is Neo-America! Like America, but... Neo.

This explains the discrepancies, I am sure.

big_bang_punch August 30 2011, 01:49:37 UTC
What's the relationship between America and Neo America, anyway?

Considering that I lived in America proper for a long time, and witnessed mostly icy wastelands rather than star-spangled banners and celeberations, I believe there is only one explanation!

All the American traits were moved to outer space, where they intensified due to Newtype evolution!

[That's not exactly what Char meant when he was talking about Newtypes...]

We are witnessing the evolution of mankind!

Newtype evolution?! Amazing!

Spoiler alert: everything you see on the TV is actually real. Broadcasting untrue events was banned 6 years ago.
[He's not even trying to make this sound credible.]

Well, if this is America, and then there's Starvengers...

Wait, there's no way that that's true!

You got me. That was a terrible lie.

Still, ever heard the phrase "truth is stranger than fiction"? It's a terrible, old cliche, but the more time I spend around here, the more I believe it's true after all.

Neo America is a strange place.

big_bang_punch August 30 2011, 02:41:24 UTC
But it's kind of awesome, too!

I'll be sad to see it go.

[Is that...yes! For once Hayato is not carefully containing any sinister ulterior motives!]
