This is Edith Piaf. I got to know her through the biographical film La Vie En Rose.
Have been quite intrigued by her. Basically, she was sorta abandoned by her mother, grew up in a brothel and while busking along the streets of Montmatre one day, she was discovered by this cabaret owner, who then presented her to the society. She progressed to become one of the world's most famous singers in the 1950s. Despite of all her successes, she had a very sad personal life... The love of her life ( a married world champion boxer ), died in a plane crash on the way to meet her. She went downhill from there and suffered from various addictions, which I suspect begun when she tried to heal herself of the heartache through drugs. She died young at 47, buried next to her child who died at age 2. The above song "Non, Je ne regrette rien" ( I have no regret ) , was her last. Somehow, the fact that she had no regrets despite of everything that happened, moved me. I also dont know why.
For some reason, I am always fascinated by tragic heroines like her. Thats why I love reading Danielle Steele, because she always writes about heroines like her, their tragedies and how they would end up in triumph. For example, a heroine losing her whole family in the Titanic, one getting dethroned in Russia and another surviving through a revolution. They are purely fictional, and most are set in the exciting times of 1880 to 1950s. But somehow, I will cry with them, cheer for them and beam with pride when they finally overcome the odds at the end.
If I could pick a life to live, I would want to be born as a Russian Princess wayy before the revolution (if its during, I would be beheaded!). In this way, I can receiver Faberge Eggs as gift, have royals all over the world as my cousins and have beautiful names like Nicola, Anastasia, Mathilde. And will have brothers caled Rudolphe, Ruggero, Alexei.
Okay this is a faberge egg:
Its so freaking beautiful... If I am a billionaire, I would collect Faberge eggs and admire them everyday...
