Set aside D&D this Saturday to give Axis & Allies: Europe 1940 a try. Played my first Axis&Allies game in a while Friday night, introducing a friend to D-Day (in which my Allied forces came close to a victory, but bad dice rolls kept me from wiping out the Germans- another turn or two and I would have won). I realized I left out my favorite AAAE change in my earlier review/play experience: research and technology development. Research has always been an expensive gamble in Axis&Allies. Played back to back games of Axis and Allies today. First game as Germany, for the second I ran Russia and Britain. Came out on the winning side in both games. The first game was disrupted with a different opening move from Russia.
