Okay, so here’s the thing. Some of you I already asked, some got suggested by others, and some may see this and want to help.
So my writing class this semester is about research. Our assessment piece has to demonstrate said research - a lot of it, ideally. My idea was to write a travel fic, about one girl from Australia (purely so I don’t have to research that, as well), and one girl who lives/has lived in various places in America and Canada. They grow up writing to each other, telling each other in minute detail about the places they see, so that it feels like they’re both there, together.
As they grow up, they plan to meet up and go on a roadtrip to see a bunch of these places in the US and Canada. But the American girl gets seriously sick and has to pull out. Instead she writes more letters to the Australian girl, guiding her on the road trip and pointing out things to her the same way they did with the letters, only now she’s actually there, seeing everything for real, and then they’ll meet up at the end of the trip.
So! What I want from anyone who is willing to help, is info about the places you live, or places you remember well. It doesn’t matter what place it is, doesn’t have to be famous or impressive. I’m making up the emotional significance of it anyway, so it can be a corner shop, or a street somewhere, a park, a part of a city, a whole city. Doesn’t matter. The point is details you would only get from being there, like smells, or sounds, impressions.
For example, all I remember from Fiji is that the ocean was only waist deep for as far as I could walk and you could see the bottom the whole way out, and a boy who spoke absolutely no English walked up to me in the water and handed me a starfish.
If you’d like to help, please feel free to comment, or pm me, or email me at
littleballofinsanity@hotmail.com , or get me on twitter maybe?
There’s plenty of time for this too. I need a fair chunk of my info, or at least a mostly complete list of places I’ll be including (not necessarily the actual info by then) by about the 19th of April, and I need the bulk of the research by the start of May, but if you feel like contributing after that, the story isn’t due til the start of June.
Thanks heaps for even reading this far.
