Things I Have Learned This Week

Oct 11, 2010 00:55

In no particular order:

1. I can't survive without t'internet for three days. Thankfully the people who fixed the phone line did it in one day instead of the four working days they originally said. Thank goodness for the iphone is all I can say. I may be a little obsessive...

2. Pastry is not my strong point. I made a lemon tart (yay Delia) and the pastry refused to co-operate when I lined the tin with it. I ended up using the time honoured patchwork method of pastry lining wherein you squish it down with your fingers. Then I forgot to compensate for the fact that our oven is hotter than normal and the pastry was burned :( The filling was good though! I am determined to get it right and will be trying again next week.

3. Things in my kitchen cupboards hate me. A jar fell out and bounced off my face before smashing on the floor. I have a mostly healed cut lip. The first things to fall on me from the cupboards was after they were first put in. I took out a plate and a whole pile of plates cascaded around me, smashing all over the floor. Since then there have also been a falling mug and a glass.

4. When there is no internet I watch a lot of Family Guy. I need new DVDs.

5. The birds in our garden are vulture-like in their appetites for bird seed. I refilled the bird feeder three times in five days. When it's empty all the blue tits line up outside the window and look at you. I think they're plotting something...

6. That the Nobel prize for chemistry was well deserved. I have run many Suzuki couplings and a few Negishi and Heck reactions too and they all work all the time. Brilliant!

7. The Apprentice is addictive and cringeworthy at the same time. Where on Earth do they find these people?!
