She wandered down the deserted streets, the sound of snow crunching under her boots. Snow was falling in fat, lazy flakes, and the wind was calm. It was almost as if the air was made up of tangible peace, it radiated from everywhere. Anyone who was watching her would see a girl shrouded in tranquility. She walked steadily, her hands tucked into her pockets for warmth. As she walked she looked around her at the glorious winter wonderland unfolding. At times she would stop and raise her face to the clouds, just to let the cold snow melt on her face.

She wandered as if on purpose, but this girl, this particular soul, was horribly lost. Inside her illusion of peace, she was breaking apart. The pieces of her heart were scattered, floating apart from each other, unconnected by tissue, but held together by a searing pain. She couldn't make sense of the seperation, and try as she might, she was unable to bring the pieces back together again. She was hopeful for the success of duct tape. She didn't understand the seperation, and she couldn't see a way to make her heart work while it was torn apart. She decided that if there was no way to bring the pieces back together, that there must be a way to work through the pain this had caused her, until it was live-able. She wasn't sure how to do that, or where she needed to go to make it so, so she kept walking. She just kept walking forward, holding on to that glimmer of hope that somewhere up ahead, there was something that would make this pain bearable, that could make the scattered pieces feel whole inside of themselves. She kept walking, and the snow kept falling. The world kept moving, and that was enough to lend peace to the fact that one foot kept moving in front of the other. And that was going to have to be enough for now.
