Okay, more Bones reaction:
Apparently, the writers are considering
using Zack's character as a "Hannibal Lector" type for next season, where they go to him for... what, exactly, I don't know. An insight into the criminal mind? Did the writers even read the episode they wrote?
Seriously, I'm willing to buy that Zack murdered that guy. I'm willing to buy that he logically apprenticed himself to Gormagon and did everything. Even though the plotline itself was kind of shoddily thrown together (blaming the writing here), there were enough hints about Zack's character from the beginning that would support him being the apprentice. There's a great
article on it here, and I think everything that was said makes sense. I think Zack made the wrong choice based on his logic, and now that Dr. Brennan has corrected him, he's willing to accept that it was the wrong choice, and he feels bad about it. They did a very good job that episode in showing that Zack was misguided, not "evil", like everyone seems to be throwing around. Everyone has the ability to murder someone, and making a wrong choice based on logic does not make Zack a malicious murderer. It really just makes him confused and misled and in need of some therapy, to be honest. Yeah, he made the wrong choice. No, that doesn't mean he's suddenly a hardened criminal who is "evil."
Which is why the whole concept of using Zack as a "criminal mastermind advisor to the gang" next season makes absolutely NO SENSE to me. Zack is not a criminal mastermind. Zack is the LAST character on this show that I would propose to use for motivation verification purposes. He has repeatedly been shown to observe facts without being able to deduce the human reasoning behind them. (Quote: "You do realize I have no idea what it means, right?", when discussing a new finding on the body or something.) Seriously, I'm really curious what they could possibly use Zack for as an "outside expert." Rational thought process? They have Dr. Brennan. Homicide motivation? Agent Booth just might be trained for that. Really, the one thing that Zack was most talented at was identifying remains, and that is Dr. Brennan's job. She trained him.
I mean, don't get me wrong, I would LOVE for Zack to continue to be on the show in some way. Especially if we continued to see Zack being best friends with Hodgins, or being Brennan's baby (cos he totally is), and so on. But as a "criminal mastermind advisor"? Please don't rape his character by assuming that killing someone is always equal to being Evil and a Criminal Mastermind.* Zack deserves better than that.
* This is also why I could not stand the season 2 finale of Veronica Mars. OMG Cassidy is EVIIIIIIL. Except for the part where his entire character motivation was based on him being DAMAGED and PANICKED, not PSYCHOTIC and MALICIOUS, you idiots. [glares at VM writing staff]
