My birthday was last Friday; we have Fridays off in the summer, so I was not required to go to work. The family and I went to Encounter Cafe for brunch, and then we walked around Iowa City, capturing pictures of Herkys--it's a year ending in -4, so it's a Herky on Parade summer.
In the afternoon, Rachel and I drove to the St. Louis area to attend a concert; Niall Horan at the Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre. Best part of the experience for me--in addition to the concert of course--is the shuttle from the hotel to the amphitheater. We left the concert at 10:15 and were in our room by 10:30!
The rest of the weekend was also nice; we drove home Saturday, stopping in an antique store where I found a Herman's Hermits record.
Sunday morning Samantha and I met my mom for a walking tour of the Lucas Farms neighborhood in Iowa City, where we learned some Civil War history of the era. And then a woman I had never met, who was also on the tour, told me all about her life. Her name is Lily, and her baby's name is Clementine--after the character in "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," Clementine is the most chill Gemini ever, and everything she's seeing, it's for the first time. Lily learned of the event through the I Grew Up In Iowa City Facebook page, even though she didn't grow up in Iowa City--she's from Los Angeles. But she lives here now, in Coralville. And her college GPA was 3.8.
On Sunday we watched the movie "Zero Hour!" on which Airplane! is based. So now we need to watch "Airplane!" soon.
