Guitar slung over his shoulder, Ren made his way to the place he would rather avoid at all cost for the rest of his school year, the hospital wing. News really did travel fast normally but, because of the slime distracting people that morning, it didn’t reach Ren’s ears till just recently that evening. Sure, he wasn’t really friends with Link but, Ren knew how hard it was to keep a secret from people and how much it messes with your head to have it ripped wide open. Swan finding out that Ren was a drug addict was pretty bad, poor Link must be feeling horrible with the whole school finding out.
He knocked on the door lightly as he entered, a chill going down his spine being back in the horrid white room. “Hey, man. You doing okay?”
Link was surprised to see the seventh year. He didn't really know Ren that well, and really didn't expect him to visit. He didn't even know that knew he was in the infirmary. "Hi Ren. I guess I'm ok. What are you doing here?"
OoC:Link doesn't know that everyone knows about the werewolf thing.
Ren gave a small smile at the questions, "Guess no one told you yet." He said idly, taking a chair and dragging it beside the other boys bed to sit on it, taking the guitar case off his back to rest it on the ground beside him. He really didn't want to break the news to him but, Link had to know that his secret...wasn't a secret anymore.
"I heard about what happened last night. Probably by now, more then half the school and all the profs will know."
Link raised an eyebrow. Ren couldn't be talking about what he thought he was talking about. He had to be talking about something else. No one knew about his...condition. No one but Sheik and Del, and he knew that they wouldn't say anything about it.
"What do you mean?" Sure, the thought that the entire school knowing that he was a werewolf was frightening, but it just couldn't happen. Even though the thought was eating at his brain, he wouldn't believe that his secret was now known by everyone.
Giving a sigh, Ren was somewhat wishing he had his cigarettes with him. It made things easier and gave some dramatic flare and suspense when he was talking. Plus, he was pretty sure the now recovering Link wouldn't appreciate the smoke.
He was known for speaking in a way that people couldn't tell if he was serious or joking around but he was dead serious with what he said next.
"What I mean is that I know that the werewolf running around last night was you."
Link didn't want to believe it. Ren had to be messing with him. It wasn't that Link didn't like him, but he knew that the fellow Gryffindor got himself into trouble, and he didn't doubt that he would try to pull a prank like this.
Unfortunately for Link, no matter how hard he looked at Ren, he couldn't convince himself that it was joke. His face was too serious, and his eyes didn't contradict his words. Link opened his mouth to say something, but the words got lost before they could be emitted from his throat. He turned away from Ren, and buried his face in his hands. "This can't be happening. This has to be a nightmare..." His voice trailed off as his mind swam with more thoughts. What would happen now? Would he be allowed to stay at Hogwarts? Would he be locked up for endangering so many people? Even if he was allowed to stay, would it be worthwhile?
Seeing the reaction on Link's face from hearing this new information, Ren felt sorry for him, he really did, but he kept his face serious so the blonde knew that what he was saying wasn't a lie. "I hate to be the one to tell you this," He said honestly to the younger boy, "But you aren't dreaming."
Leaning back in his chair a bit, Ren just stayed silent so Link could have the time to think without him speaking to interrupt his thoughts. It was harsh and the punk boy was in the same position that Link was in now just yesterday so he knew that it took a while to get over the initial shock and let everything sink in.
Link didn't turn to Ren when he spoke. Although Ren couldn't see it, Link's eyes were wide with fear and he had started to sweat from the anxiety. He felt his throat dry up, as if no amount of water would help it. The only thing Link was able to keep back were tears. He wouldn't let anyone see him cry
( ... )
Ren was distracted slightly from looking around the room that he loathed that he didn't see Link start shaking, when he did turn to look at the boy, he just looked in shock at the other boy...apparently he got over the grief already.
Quirking an eyebrow slightly at the glare Link was now sending his way, Ren wasn't sure why but the look in Link's eyes stated quite clearly that he was pissed and was now focusing that rage on Ren directly.
Link starting to move wasn't something he was expecting either, his eyes growing wide as he jumped to either assist the boy or back away. "Whoah, watch it!" He warned as the blonde collapsed back down onto the bed, "Did it ever occur to you that moving might be a bad idea for you right now?"
"Shut up!" Deep down, Link knew that Ren was only telling him this for his own good, but that still didn't change the fact that Link was probably the most feared and hated thing in the building.
Link knew that he wasn't angry at Ren. He knew that he could only blame himself for what happened, but that thought only made him more frustrated, and this guy wasn't really helping. The fact that he couldn't even punch him also worsened his feeling, so he lashed out again. This time, his fist was able to hit the Gryffindor's jaw, but it wasn't without a price. Link hissed as he fell back on the bed again. Trying to punch someone with broken ribs really wasn't a good idea.
Ren wasn't quite sure what had happened but the next thing he knew, Link had flailed his arms out towards him and just punched him in the face. Stumbling back a bit, he clenched his hands on his jaw groaning a bit and wondering what the hell he did to deserve that. Sure, it didn't actually hurt that bad because of how weak Link was but, it was more the shock of getting punched in the first place that really got to Ren.
Shaking off the surprise, Ren gave a small glare to the other boy, "You know the phrase 'don't shoot the messenger'? Don't punch him either!" Massaging his slightly sore jaw he looked down at Link now suffering for his move 'serves you right' and he gave a sigh his voice now calm, "Besides, I know what you're going through. It's hard to deal with having your secrets be ripped wide open."
Link continued to glare at Ren. "I seriously doubt that. I don't know about any of your secrets, but I'm sure none of them include the fact that you transform into a bloodthirsty monster." Link winced as he sat himself back up. "Not only do I have that to worry about, but I have to worry about the rest of the people here and whether they'll chase me out of Hogwarts, so no, you have no idea what you're talking about."
Link looked away from his visitor and rubbed his temples. He really didn't know what he could do. Sure, he'd have to stay in the hospital wing until he healed enough so he could walk, but what's going to happen after that. Surly, he'd be kicked out or school, and he'd have to go back home. It wasn't that home was a bad place, but he had so many friends here, and if he left Hogwarts, he knew there was little chance of seeing them again.
Hearing the boys little outburst of frustration, Ren went back to the chair he was sitting on before, leaning on the back with his head resting on his crossed arms. “Only one person knows right now,” he admitted, “But I’m so paranoid that I’ll screw up again and someone else will find out. Sure I don’t turn into a werewolf like you but, you don’t have a choice in that.” He looked away, a sad expression crossing his face thinking on his own problems momentarily
( ... )
Link wanted to yell at Ren and tell him that he was full of shit, but he couldn't. The seventh year had just described what he was feeling, so it was only right that maybe Ren did know what he was saying.
Link knew that Sheik and Del would be upset if he left, but he was afraid that they were the only two people that were going to miss him. He knew that they would do whatever they could to keep him at Hogwarts, but they had no power over the Headmaster. (Or the Ministry for that matter if they got involved.)
He was still shaking a little from the shock when he turned back to Ren. "Sorry I punched you. I don't know what I'm thinking right now." He really didn't care if Ren would forgive or not, but he did feel bad for taking his anger out on him. It wasn't like Link to attack others like that.
Blinking at the sudden apology, the punk boy stared at the blonde for a minute or so before he began laughing. He guessed after his little psycho-analyst stuff, Link realized that Ren actually did understand what he was going through. "Hey, don't worry about it!" he said with a small chuckle, "We all have different ways to deal with it and you just happen to be more violent then I was." He tenderly rubbed his jaw, "Didn't really hurt much anyways."
Akabane watched over all of these little...goings-on with a slight little smile. It was absolutely gorgeous that these two boys were getting on so well, no?
He busied himself with loud tinkering in his own office, just so that the boys wouldn't get too carried away with their apologies.
