Lately, she had started to rethink this strategy. Sneaking out every once in a while wasn't such a bad thing, was it? Having been here so long and having missed out on some of the things her close friends had dared to do made her feel left out. And now, most of those friends were gone... and she was still here, left out, wondering how being good all the time had really benefited her.
It hadn't made any of them stay.
Besides, sneaking out after curfew was hardly anything to write home about. When Jayne had mentioned seeing the stars when it was truly dark outside, she'd been interested for sure, and fairly easy to convince.
She ducked out of the swinging portrait, shutting it as quietly as possible behind her. She froze at the sight of a tall, dark shadow across the way, but relaxed when she recognized it as Jayne instead of a teacher. "Hi," She said brightly, although in a voice barely above a whisper.
Kairi honestly thought Jayne looked adorable in that hat, although she couldn't imagine anyone else wearing it's twin. It was sweet that he took such pride in the things his mother made him.

He smiled at her when she finally emerged. "Ready?" he mumbled. Times like these, he wished he was better at casting spells. He was beginning to learn a few of them better thanks to her tutelage; he still had a lot to learn. A mute spell would have come in real handy about now.
He headed down the hallway, keeping an eye out for any teachers or staff. He breathed a small sigh of relief as they made it outside. One hurdle down.

Kairi was getting much better at sneaking around. She still wasn't the best at it, but she had Jayne to pull her to the side in case she was being too loud or he saw someone coming. So they made it to the Astronomy Tower without too much worry, getting lucky enough not to run into any patrolling professors.
"Have you been practicing the spells we went over yesterday?" She whispered, as they started to ascend the steps.

At her question, he grimaced. He'd practiced, all right. Just didn't get any decent results. He was pretty sure his wand was conspiring against him. his beloved Vera would never do this to him. Maybe he should have named his wand something other than 'Vera, too.' It was giving his gun a bad name.
"Yeah, kinda. They just don't always want to turn out right. I don't get it," he mumbled as they went up the steps. They were probably mostly in the clear by now. He still didn't want to risk getting caught before they reached their destination.

"You just gotta keep at it," She told him, confidently. "If you keep practicing, it'll get smoother." If he had told her it was his wand that was bothering him, she might've loaned him hers, just to see if it made a difference. Hers was also a hand-me-down, but it was attuned rather well to her and worked well enough.

He breathed a sigh of relief as they finally made it up to the top. Jayne wanted to know why there had to be so many stairs. He wasn't against physical activity, but it seemed rather pointless. Guess he should start working on how to better use his broom.
He turned around to give Kairi a glance. He really hoped she liked it up here. Part of it was he wanted to show her something nice. And the other part. Well a growing man had needs. "Well, what do you think?" he asked, his voice slightly lower than normal.

It really was better, like this. When it was so late, and so silent, and she felt so much closer than she did on the ground. Maybe she really did need to start taking astronomy classes.
Still. The stars didn't magically make her worries vanish, although they were pretty and distracting to look at. She smiled, but there was a somber haunt to her tone. "It's really beautiful."

"Do you know any of them shapes they make up?" he asked her, trying to gauge her interest.

It was a nice night. Chill, but not enough to make her move for cover. And the stars were very bright. But it wasn't doing as good a job as she'd hoped for of making her forget certain empty bunks back at Gryffindor Tower. "I bet a lot of kids come up here."
Reply
"Yeah, probably. Wonder if they're all interested in looking at the stars, though."

"Well, it's a bit too chilly to try and do homework or anything else up here, isn't it?" What else would people come this high up into the tower for :||

"I heard they make out up here and stuff." He looked down at her with a raise of his eyebrows.

So there was a very definite, very shocked blush that warmed her cheeks, as she stared up at him blankly. He couldn't actually mean... "Oh," Was all she replied, her mind scrambling for anything else to say.
Reply
"Yeah, that's just what people say, I guess," he said as he leaned against the tower.
