Leoben usually wasn't one for parties, being a quiet sort of person, but he figured he'd been anti-social for far too long, and was trying to fix that. It did mean going outside his comfort zone, but he was starting to get used to it. Frequent prayer seemed to help.

He hadn't dressed up for the ball all that much, forgoing a costume for his dress robes, which were rather worn. He didn't wear them all that often, so they were a bit older. He a fleeting thought of trying to pass himself off as a vampire, but decided against it.

Casually, Leoben watched the dance floor, considering he was being a chaperon at this time. There was one eye exploring the buffet as well.

After the last costume party had gone awry, Nanao had also forgone a costume. Instead she was wearing her second most formal kimono and a serious expression. Parties really were not her thing.

Having circuted the room once keeping an eye out for troublemakers, she joined Leoben watching the dancefloor. He seemed as uncomfortable as she felt. "Professor Conoy," she inclined her head in greeting.

It took Leoben a moment to respond, having been lost in thought.

"Nanao," He replied. "Enjoying the party?"

Leoben had never been one for honorifics or addressing people formally. he preferred to use names.

Spying the fellow chaperon off by himself, Agni approached him and made an effort at small talk. He was curious as to why Mr. Conoy came in only dress robes, but he didn't inquiry upon it. "Good evening Mr. Conoy". Agni dressed as Dr. Watson bowed his head slightly in a polite greeting.

"We haven't had the occasion to speak previously".

"No, I don't believe we have, Agni," Leoben replied, coming out of his thoughts, and offering a slight smile. "And Leoben is fine."

It seems that coming to this party was a good idea after all. He was getting the chance to socialize.

Agni readily returned the smile. Yet another professor that preferred to dispense with formalities. That wasn't an easy concept for the dutiful servant to follow. If, he did prefer first names, Agni would try to comply. "Leoben it is then".

The sentiment was mutual. It wasn't often that Agni was able to socialize with others, not for any reason other than his job as caretaker kept him preoccupied most of the time and the other caretaker worked at night. "What subject do you teach?".

"I teach Divination, for the sixth and seventh years," Leoben said, answering the question. He considered himself lucky to have the job, considering that his prior occupation had been on the slightly shady side. The teaching job provided a bit more security.

"You are a caretaker, correct?"

"Really? If you teach sixth years then you may be familiar with Prince Soma? Though I am not sure if he is taking divination or not.." Agni paused thoughtfully, trying to recall if his master had ever mentioned the subject before. Soma was trying harder than usual but he was still not the the best student around. Agni was proud of him either way.

That might be something the two of them Leoben and Agni shared in common. Having darker pasts, though probably wildly different.

"That is correct," He smiled, surprised that the professor knew as much. "Not the only one, as I'm sure you know but I am one of them. Sebastian does a remarkable job overnight!". You could tell, Agni held a let of respect for his fellow caretaker.

"Soma?" Leoben paused for a moment. He knew most of his student's names, but there were always one or two that eluded him. "I can't say that the name rings a bell, but I'll keep an eye open for him."

"And yes, I have noticed that. You both do a good job, considering how much happens around here."

There were a lot of students to keep up with at Hogwarts so it was not altogether surprising that the professor had not heard of him yet. "Please do, he is becoming a upstanding young man".

Agni accepted the others praise as humbly as possible, not one to hold up his own accomplishments. There was still so much he needed to make up for. "We do try."

"How are you enjoying your time at Hogwarts so far?".

"I've been it enjoying quite well. It's kind of odd though, coming back as a teacher, after being away for a number of years."

It had been some time, but Leoben did still wish he had the same freedom as when he was a student.
