WHO: Chao Lingshen and Shalice Tilman-Sinclair
LOCATION: Gryffindor Common room
WEEK: 61
TIME: Very, very early morning
WHAT: Chao has a nightmare that keeps her up and Shalice tries to help
RATING: PG at most, I probably wouldn't even go that far but hey.

There were some nights that Chao wondered why she even tried to sleep in the first place. Spending only half hour to maybe two hours of sleep before being torn right back to cold reality around her was not something a school girl should be dealing with. Not that what she saw while dreaming was any better. It had been years since Chao had to deal nightmares like these. The kind of ones that even as she had been up for nearly a half hour, her hands still trembled uncontrollably. Her senses still suspicious of the shadows around her, ever careful for whatever monster that lurked within them.

It was all thanks to the boggart attack nearly a month back that she was like this, doing more than pulling out skeletons from the closet. It wasn't like Chao to ever think about the past. Truth be told, she wanted to believe that she had no regrets. She knew what happened before was something she couldn't control and spent time since then hoping to prevent it happening again.

Apparently that wasn't good enough for her subconscious. Even with just scraps of memory left in her head, the screams were still fresh in her ears. The long, drawn out pain of a wand slicing its away across her skin, almost a dance as it twirled and danced across her. She didn't even needed to be asked to open up, her mouth already locked wide and hollow as her voice had long fled from what the rest of her could not. Chokes and gags were all that came out as she felt the blue light pour into her mouth, searing away any feeling of-

Chao hissed in pain while pulling the cup of tea from her mouth, instincts immediately suckling on her own burned tongue. The golden glow of the common room fire still crackled in front of her as she quickly but delicately set the cup back down on the table beside her. It wasn't real, at least not current. Chao sighed as she tried her best to relax back on the chair she sat on, willing her heart to stop trying to rip from her chest at how fast it beated.

There was no way she was sleeping tonight. Maybe she sneak her way back into her dorm to grab a book, but that would involve walking back into shadows of whatever hour of the evening it was.

...

Maybe later.
