Projected by a flickering torch in the otherwise dark and empty hallway, a silhouette of a girl holding a single rose stood against the hanging tapestry near the entrance of the Gryffindor tower. A shadow arm raised in tandem with its corporeal owner's, followed by a curious "hm" as it quietly dropped once more to her side. Distant allegories echoed in her thoughts, but here the shadows had no life of their own and no veiled warnings to give. Different from Ohtori Utena had said about the rules, and Anthy wondered if this was one of them.
The Utena she remembered did not care much about rules and limitations, so learning her position as prefect would be slightly unsettling if she had not been waiting for the girl well after the time allowed. Challenging rules down to the very core of the game even after she had won everything, it was Utena's complete defiance to how things were and should be that had so inspired the Rose Bride's first and last act of independence. Escaping had changed Anthy for what she hoped was the better, but she hadn't considered the possibility that Utena as well could have changed in their time apart. What did she discover in the Outside World?
Uncertainty wasn't a familiar feeling for the girl who always knew how the cards were stacked, but now somebody had gone and shuffled the deck.
