Although he would have preferred to stay back in the dorms and read, Orochimaru was a growing boy, and found that he'd outgrown some of his winter clothing from the previous year. Between his deceased relatives leaving money to him and his maternal grandparents being well off, he'd be able to afford good quality winter clothing. Orochimaru was the opposite of cheerful and optimistic, but he could still appreciate small blessings. The chance to get things that would fit more comfortably and keep him warm was one of those small blessings. Orochimaru hated the cold.

He sorted through the boys' robes, partially hoping for service and partially hoping that the sales staff would leave him alone and let him browse.

His voice came off rather feminine, almost like a purr cat, sultry and low for a males. "Oh my. You've certainly grown, haven't you?" While Grell was the last person that could probably help a male dress, he also knew how to properly impress himself.

He hardly had any interaction with the students anyways. It was about time to start slipping in.

For a moment, Orochimaru wasn't certain whether or not the professor was male - he wasn't in Professor Sutcliffe's class, after all. He thought he was, and was mostly sure of it, but most people would be very offended if a mistake of that sort was made, so he opted for an appropriately neutral and non-specific response until he had the chance to confirm for certain.

"Yes, Professor," he replied politely. "Most of my winter clothing doesn't fit properly anymore."

His boots in particular - he'd actually worn shoes instead of proper winter footwear because he couldn't get his feet into his boots from the previous year even remotely comfortably. His feet had undergone the most dramatic growth spurt lately, although he'd gotten taller in the past few months, too.

Such soft skin, porcelin in feature. He was more interested in it merely due to the condition. Even he couldn't get his skin looking as soft, and he pampered himself almost every night in getting it as beautiful as it could be.

"Hmm, hmm. What a shame? Do you perhaps need assitance? I would be more than happy to help."

Usually at this point, he'd make some lude remark, but kids just weren't his type, nor was Orochimaru built handsomely well. Though kids, he liked kids. He so wanted one of his own.

Like many other boys his age, Orochimaru had never given the condition of his skin a great deal of thought. As long as it was clean and not so dry that it itched, he didn't particularly care about maintaining it. The only thing he'd really noticed about it was that he was very pale, but it ran in the family.

"I would appreciate that, thank you," he said with a small nod. "I've never had to buy clothes for myself."

He'd only ever gone shopping with family, and usually had spent most of his time focusing on when they were going to go to the bookstore or somewhere else more interesting than a clothing store. He'd only paid minimal attention to what his family was buying - just making certain it wasn't anything he'd die of embarrassment if he wore it in public.

Unlike most females, Grell - beliving himself to be one- would not aim to dress Orochimaru in something overly cute and embarrising. No he wanted males to look striking, attentive, well polished.

"Charmed. Now let's see." He shuffed through a few that Orochimaru was looking at, "Something warm and comfortable I assume." His voice almost had a purr to it, low and sultry.

He looked him up and down, trying to judge size and squeezed around him to peek at the back of his shirt. If he was that size, then perhaps a couple more up from there. Hmm.

Professor Sutcliffe's tone of voice probably would have fazed a teenage boy under normal circumstances. Orochimaru wasn't particuarly troubled one way or another. The professor was being kind enough to help him look for some clothing, which would make the trip more to the point. Or so he thought. At the very least, having an adult with him meant that the store's staff would probably converse with Professor Sutcliffe rather than him, now.

"That would be good, yes," he agreed. "Something that I can study in comfortably would be best, Professor."

Another thought occurred to him. "I'll have to find loose robes that Manda can fit into, too. She's my pet snake and she likes to sit in the sleeves of my robes."

He shooed away a woman when she flocked over to help him, or ask if he needed assistance. Shop keeps only sold items. They didn't exactly know their profession as well as they believed. Besides, the boy didn't need help with him around.

He plucked out a few robes, setting them against him with a tilt of his head, "Hmm hmm how about this one?" He blinked, moving to poking his cheek a bit with a press, "Manda? I rather enjoy snakes. " Anything dark and tempting and dangerous was his kind of pet.

"That one looks fine," said Orochimaru. He didn't have a particularly strong opinion on clothing, beyond what looked ridiculous and what was comfortable vs. uncomfortable.

He picked up a pair of trousers, making sure the legs were long enough that he could grow into them without any problems.

"A lot of people don't like snakes," he remarked. "I don't understand why. They're really not any more dangerous than other animals people keep as pets as long as you take proper care of them."

He stretched out the fabric wear a bit along his arms, selecting one that was a little looser than before but would hang on him all the same. A cheeky grin filtered over his face. He felt like a mother helping his dear son into something comfortable. This was one of the gentle interactions wasn't it?

He wiggled a little in place and lifted it up a bit, checking the price. "Hmm hmm. The price seems fair."

He grinned, rows of sharp shark teeth filtering into view, "But people buy them because they can be dangerous. People seems to appreciate beauty far less when it comes to things that should be looked at."

"I like them because I can talk to them," said Orochimaru. Although he didn't go around telling anyone who would listen that he was a parselmouth, he didn't think it was anything he needed to keep a secret. The ability ran in the family, and the sorting hat had placed him in Slytherin after only a few seconds of deliberation.

"Snakes are much more intelligent than people give them credit for, and usually they won't attack a person without being provoked."

There were only a few breeds who had ever been known to be particularly aggressive. He'd read all about different sorts of snakes as a child, thinking that it would be wise to know what snakes would be cordial with him vs. which ones would be grumpy or even downright vicious.

He blinked a little, his glasses sliding down his nose a bit as he pondered over the young child. That was a parselmouth, wasn't it? They were a rarety. "You have quite the remarkable talent. I've tried it before as a child and came out with no success."

He lightly poked at his own cheek, tapping it a bit, "Oh, and you'd know, wouldn't you, Mister....? Remind me of your name, sweetie."

He handed Orochimaru the robes of his choice and started to push him towards the back where the changing rooms were, "Go try these on. I'll wait out here. It wouldn't be proper of a lady of me to go inside." Even though he was a man.

"It runs in my family on my father's side," said Orochimaru with a little bit of pride in his voice. "My father and grandmother and my uncle were parselmouths, too. But my uncle was the only one who could speak parseltongue as early as I could."

That was one of the comparisons to his uncle that he didn't mind at all. Whatever else he thought of the man, he couldn't deny that his namesake had been a gifted wizard.

"My name's Orochimaru Tanaka the second."

He blinked for a moment when Professor Sutcliffe said he was a lady, now finding himself even more confused about whether or not the professor was actually male or female. It seemed that 'Professor' was the most appropriate and respectful term of address to use until he knew for certain.

"Ah, thank you, Professor."

Such pride. Such determination to keep it a secret. He held his hands down on his shoulders until he let him go, winking a bit at him with a charmish grin, those row of shark teeth coming into view, "I would die for a gift like that, but I have other, more exclusive talents than that."

He spoke a little loud so he could hear him, resting an elbow in hand, and a hand on his cheek, staring towards the men's changing room. With a smile on his face, he grinned all the while, tapping his fingers and waiting patiently. Grell always had patience when it was something he wanted.

"Mister Orochimaru, or do you prefer Tanaka?"

"Like what, Professor?" Orochimaru asked curiously. It was always wise to be aware of what the people around you could do. He didn't socially interact much, but he'd kept tabs on what he'd observed and heard about others that didn't seem to be baseless rumours.

"Either is fine," he added afterwards. Most professors tended to call him Mr. Tanaka, but that was just a standard way to address a student that one wasn't on personal terms with.

Oh, he felt flattered at the moment that someone else was interested in him and his head cocked, his fingers tapping to his cheek a bit more, "I can.. sing. Rather well." He lightly tapped the hollow of his throat, "So much so that during my stay here as a student, I was allowed to participate in theatre arts as long as each of my singing tests were given in private.

Mixing song with magic isn't a good idea. To most." His voice was feminine as it was, and not very manly as most male professors. That should've been one clue to most headmasters. "Mr. Tanaka."
