Catty was already out in the Quidditch pitch by the time Max decided to start flying around. Actually, she was in the stands, lying on her back and staring up at the night sky, eyes trained on the moon. It had always been alluring to her, even before the one spell a few weeks ago, and it had become even more intoxicating because of the other memories resulting from the interesting spell-gone-wrong.

She wondered if it were possible that she had even the smallest bit connection in this world as the other. Not exactly a goddess, but maybe something close? Rolling her eyes, the brunette sighed. What could possibly be like a goddess but not really? She could think of really stupid things sometimes.

Her thoughts were interrupted though, when she spotted a moving shadow, and cold dread filled her body. Catty jumped up, trying to calm herself. This was what she got for thinking about that stupid other life that wasn't real; everything she saw was going to end up belonging to a force that didn't even exist.

"Hello?" She hoped her voice didn't sound as shaky as she felt.

Crap!

Sorry!" she called out on instinct, only to swear inwardly and clap her hands. Max was literally, right above Catty, her wings flapping and keeping her afloat. Idiot!! If she'd just kept her mouth shut-!

The prefect wanted to say something. She wanted to be witty and not be freaked out that there was a girl hovering above her. No, not hovering.

She had wings. She was flying.

Still silent, Catty nodded, to herself rather than to the other girl. Well, she assumed it was a girl. It had sounded like a girl, right? She had to say something.

"What...?"

Oh, brilliant.

Okay Max, chill. Clearly this girl was more freaked out than you were. Slowly, Max flew downward, seeing the girl was wearing a red and gold scarf. Great; she was even in her house. Then again, Max was wearing a scarf the same colors. She shook her head slightly as her feet touched the top of one of the stand seats, landing there as her wings extended behind her.

"Tell on me for being out at night if you want," Max began, "Just don't tell anyone about these, okay?" She motioned back to her wings. "I didn't think anyone else would see..."

Finally, Catty relaxed, running her fingers through her hair as a slow grin started spreading across her face. A defense mechanism rather than excitement, but nobody could usually tell that. Her eyes were focused on the wings, but she realized that was rude and finally looked at the girl, seeing the identical scarf.

This had to be Max, then, since Catty pretty much knew everyone in her house.

"Telling on you is practically giving myself up for detention, and I'd rather not put my prefect status in jeopardy yet again just because." Professor Shalice wouldn't be too thrilled to hear that she had been out of the castle after curfew.

Max sighed, visibly relaxing as her wings tucked in some. "Thank you," she said, "Seriously, you have no idea how thankful I am about that." It was true; if she got detention, she knew it'd get back to Fang, and she'd get one heck of an angry letter from him. Definitely a 'do not want' situation for Max.

"Don't worry about it. Gryffindors have to stick together." Catty smiled more genuinely this time. "You're Max, right? I'm Catty." And she giggled at that, considering that Max had bird wings and her name...

Well, she wasn't funny all the time, and at least she hadn't said it out loud or anything.

Max let out a snicker of her own. Yes, that was funny. At Catty's question, the blonde nodded. "Got it in one," she replied, allowing herself to step closer to the girl now that she wasn't getting ratted out. "Sorry I scared you."

"Ah, I wasn't scared..." Catty rubbed the back of her neck awkwardly, wondering why it was so easy for her to lie. "Startled. I was thinking about something..." Yeah, thinking about evil shadows that didn't exist.

She rocked on her heels a little bit. Gazed out to the Quidditch pitch, then let her eyes settle back on Max. "What are you, anyway?"

Max's wings folded up, sinking back through her clothes and tucking under her spine, where they always rested. "You want the long version or the short version?" asked Max, "Night's still young and all, but I know long stories aren't everyone's taste." Max sat down on one of the seats, playing with her scarf a bit.

Sitting down near Max, Catty shrugged. It didn't matter to her which version was told, but it was unlikely that she was going to be able to sleep very well once she heard either version. Unless Max was part harpy or something.

Catty didn't entertain that thought for long. "Whatever version you feel like telling me, I guess. I'm honestly surprised you want to talk about it."
