Her eyes swept the corridors ahead of her for anything out of the ordinary, her ears straining to hear sounds of either students or Belladonna. Nanao had no desire to confront the newly-corporeal witch. She knew the extent of her dueling skills and had no delusions of grandeur or heroics.
Hopefully everyone else could get enough sense to help them last the night.
She gritted her teeth, wishing again that all this could have occured when there was that she had to deal with. All ghosts once again taking on flesh did mean that Belladonna was a thread once more; but it also meant-
I just want to be able to touch you~
Nanao stopped herself and took a deep breath. This was neither the time nor the place for that kind of reflection and everything that went with it. There was too much going on right now, and she could not ( ... )

He ran, ran! him! notoriously lazy Shunsui was running down the hall, and he found it somewhat surprising that he still remembered how, after so very many years of floating ( ... )

There were some things one never noticed about ghosts, because they simply weren't there to be noticed.
Ghosts usually floated off the ground, so height was never a question. But he was tall, it seemed. Impressively tall. Physical presence was another deficiency, for the simple reason they had nothing to be present with. Currently, it was definitely not something Shunsui lacked. Even the small motion of a chest rising and falling with actual breaths...
But the reason Nanao could only stare at him as he approached her was unspeakable frustration that he hadn't done as she'd told him to. Nothing else ( ... )

Shunsui knew the situation was dangerous, very dangerous, but it seemed somehow that the graver things around him got, the less serious he himself became- and a situation which involved Nanao and Belladonna was very grave indeed. He wondered if perhaps he could irritate Nanao back to the Great Hall. There were many capable professors gathered there, surely it was the safest place in all the school. And Shunsui dearly wanted Nanao to be safe.
At her look, he knew better than to suggest it, however.

A large, heavy, knowledge-filled tome to smack straight into the ridiculous face of the no-longer-ghost in front of her. Instead she gritted her teeth, adjusted her glasses and muttered internally about how frustrating it was to be so easily flustered by him.
She took a deep breath, trying to regain her focus on what had to be done and to fight back the blush that had spread across her cheeks.
"We," she began, putting emphasis on the word because now that he was here she wasn't about to let him wander off by himself and get into more trouble. "Are going to finish patrolling this floor, and then go up to the next and continue looking for students there."
She would have to remember to smack him later, when things calmed down.

Her wand was raised in a moment. "Best I rid the menace, hmm?"

"Belladonna," he said easily, "we're just looking for any students who are having a hard time finding their way." He smiled up at her from beneath his hat, careful not to betray his worry for the woman behind him. Nanao shouldn't be here. What could she do against the Ghost Widow? She would get hurt.
He held his hands up, fingers spread wide. "There's no need for that now, is there? Come with me and enjoy a cup of sake. Or is wine more to your taste?" He knew there was no way she would listen to him, but if he could just get her away from Nanao...

The fear creeping down her spine at the sight of her rounding the corner would not let her be so apathetic right now. She shifted the grip on her wand, wanting to be ready should Belladonna try anythi-
Nanao blinked in surprise as Shunsui moved between her and the witch. What was he doing!? She wasn't the one in danger here!
She felt fear, stronger now, settle over her- though now it was fear for his safety. Did he have no common sense!?
And- and he was asking her for a drink!
"We're simply looking for students, Belladonna." she added, half-stepping out from behind him. "Some of them don't seem to be unable to follow instructions very well."

This pair was utterly revolting to her. The way Kyouraku fawned over her, the way Ise wavered back and forth. They were pathetic, and beyond irritating. Although, that Shunsui would hark after the living so was rather deliciously stupid. She loved the bittersweet bite of the tale, and yet... every moment they carried on she knew not how she might keep from retching. It was a shame when such comedy was marred so.
"I know where you might be able to find some," she said to Ise. "Allow me to show you." Brutally and with practiced speed, bolt of dark energy blasted towards the Ravenclaw Head of House as Belladonna stepped easily into her favourite dance. Blast followed blast, none directed at her fellow ghost but all aiming for Nanao. After all, it would not be polite to neglect a lady even in the presence of such a gentleman, would it?
Lovely, lovely Nanao.

His eyes never left the Slytherin ghost, his demeanor unwaveringly calm, as if he were dealing with a frightened animal. And the Widow was, he thought, something like a frightened animal, though more vicious and cruel than any he had ever come across. "We have no desire to fight you. We only wish to find the students."
And then the pale woman was moving, so fast his eyes could barely follow, and she was attacking not him, but his Nanao-chan. Shunsui whipped his wand through the air, calling forth his magic in a way he hadn't done in years, hadn't been able to do in years. A great gust of wind swept forth, blowing the Widow's spells off course.
"Nanao, go!" he called to her over his shoulder, heart pounding in his chest. Belladonna hated him, not Nanao, so why...? and then he realized. She was attacking Nanao to hurt him. Well then. He would just have to not let her. Spreading his arms wide, Shunsui's large frame ( ... )

But there simply wasn't time to deal with that as Belladonna raised her wand and began her attack... towards her? Her wand already raised, Nanao began the incantation for a shield charm and- and she wasn't going to be able to cast the spell fast enough. She thew up her arms, hoping that the half-formed shield would take most of the impact.
Feeling a wind she looked up- Shunsui had deflected the spells. She stared at his broad back for what seemed liked an age but could only have been a few seconds until he turned and shouted at her to make her escape.
That snapped her into action. Did he honestly expect her to simply run away while he stayed and fought!? Focusing and bringing up her wand again, Nanao cast her shield charm in front of him determined to do more than just sit and be protected.

But breathing wasn't important right now. As her blood pounded through her ears and her head throbbed, she scrambled across to where Shunsui lay. Nanao's hands hovered over him, afraid to touch him lest she break him completely. He hadn't moved.
"Don't- don't talk." she said, the relief causing her to smile despite the shock. "Just-" Nanao fumbled for her wand, but it wasn't in its ususl place. The need to find it joined with the other thoughts clamouring for Nanao's attention.
The attention which was firmly fixed on the man before her.
"Wh-where does it hurt most?" she asked, her voice trembling like the hand she laid gently on his chest.

She nodded, relieved to be able to do something to help. As she knelt over his leg, looking at the twisted way it lay, her vision began to blur. Blinking and shaking her head to clear it, she stopped suddenly as a single tear dropped onto him. Quickly she rubbed her eyes, not wanting him to see. She had to be composed, for Merlin's sake.
"I-" her voice cracked with emotion, and Nanao had to pause to swallow and compose herself. "I'm going to have to straighten it before I can do anything." She turned to look at him, aware that the only sedative spells she knew would not be enough to conceal the pain.
