Prepare to be... Catty'd.scroll_heirAugust 21 2009, 06:45:32 UTC
It was late. Late enough that the library would be practically empty. Empty worked for Catty. Empty meant nobody would see Catty slip into the Restricted Section and question her about it, leading to awkward conversation and more lies. Or avoidance. She was better at avoiding or denying the truth than actually lying. In order to lie, Catty would have to admit... She shook her head. Bad enough Sakura knew she was going to be here, since the Gryffindor had to get a pass off her best friend.
She just needed to find any book that dealt with scrolls or manuscripts that were known to possess the keepers.
She jumped, eyes widening, heart racing, at the crashing sound. She was becoming too paranoid for her own good. Forgetting her search, she silently moved to where the sound had come from, glancing around a bookcase to see a fellow 6th year.
"L-lady?" Catty remembered that Lady had said she was having trouble sleeping. Trying to find a huge, boring book to knock herself out on?
Somewhere, Lady was reminiscing, about taking matters into her own hands, how the Ministry had literally left her with nothing. Or maybe it was better that way, that it should end differently. No one, save a few others, knew about what happened. There was nothing here to pester her, after all. Yet as Lady was just about to turn around, to set her attentions back on the chair...
The call came and caused her to tense up in the shoulders. She paused, listening to remember the voice... oh, yes. It was Catty, a fellow sixth year. She managed to at least stifle the flinch, keeping her face cool, the girl simply turned her head. And stared.
Now, how the hell was this going to be explained? But then-
That chair. Damn it. It wasn't as if she was angry, the silence only reflected how unsure she was on how to respond, but carefully with one hand, she bent back down to push the chair back up. Finally, blue and red eyes settled on the other girl -- well, narrowed. "Yeah?" Was all Lady could answer back with, quietly. Begrudgingly. Cradling the

Catty's body relaxed a bit, and she slipped into an easy and comfortable smile, stepping out from behind the shelves. Smooth, Turner, creeping up on people. The stare was a bit unnerving, the silence even more so. Oh no, the brunette did not feel very awkward at all.
Shifting her gaze from Lady, she could now see the chair on the floor. That answered her previous question, but now she was plagued with more. What was Lady doing here? What was she looking for? She bit down on her lip. God, she was a hypocrite, because if anybody wanted to ask her those questions, she'd have to enter Evasion Mode.
Still... The way Lady held that book to her, the curiosity that itched at Catty burned a little bit brighter. "Hey! Wow, I'm glad I wasn't just imagining that sound. Or someone I wouldn't want to run into," she said with her same smile, but she hadn't planned on running into anyone. Fate was cruel.
Alright, that was enough to make her relax -- if only a little. She took her eyes back off of her, but still, the book didn't leave her chest. Awkward didn't even cover it, not with the way she greeted her. She seemed harmless, didn't she? As long as Catty wasn't asking about her... studies.
It was late, after all, and Lady was already tired, rubbing her hair, feigning a yawn, "Oh," Her tone changed, softer... calmer. "I thought I was the only one who came out here this late..."
Yet on this end, the same questioned seemed to cross her mind, and yes, it would have been hypocritical, "I think most of everyone isn't around here... or the creepers linger by."
Dante wasn't too keen on books, and he never did any research for anything (at least not school related if ya know what I mean--), but that sure as hell didn't keep him out of the restricted section of the library. The word "restricted" was simply too much of an unspoken challenge to someone like Dante. He just had to sneak in there from time to time--as if seeing if he still had "it." And he most definitely still had it

She would have been more happy without an interruption, and just when it seemed it was safe from someone stupidly asking her what happened or what she was doing. Lady wouldn't go away empty-handed, not with all the time she spent here. But before she even regarded Dante, Lady was too busy nursing the oncoming headache.
It was like a sixth sense that someone irritating was near by. By now, anyone that took her by surprise, especially behind her back, earned a flinch. As soon as her mind realize who was there...
That guy. Oh, yes, that one, the one Lady used to get into fights with in her younger years. Kalina Ann had sent a note back not even a day later, scolding her for it. But her mother didn't understand how much he grated her nerves... Even if he was walking by. No, no, she didn't flinch, no. Maybe if she was quick enough, she could cover it
( ... )
He spread his arms wide in a showy fashion and smirked snidely down at her. He didn't comment on the flinch--you bet he saw it for what it was. "As a matter of fact, no. I do not."
He dropped his arms and leaned back on top of the books, spreading out to lay across them with his legs crossed at the ankles and one elbow propping his upper half up comfortably. He gazed down at her with his head tilted slightly.
"What'cha readin'? Can't imagine it ain't boring as hell."
"None of your business," Lady clutched the book to her chest, rather scandalously, narrowing her eyes at him, as if expecting him to swoop down at her. But that problem would be solved; reaching back without even looking, Lady had seized another book from the shelf, nice and heavy, not even meaning to read it. If came the need, it would be thrown at him. He drove her up a wall, after all.
Though, true to any Slytherin, Lady had to take more of a condescending stance, "Of course it'd boring for you," She snorted, "I doubt someone like you can read."
It didn't help. The comical look of Lady's eyes narrowed into slits hadn't changed, "Why the hell can't you sneak around like a normal person?"
