Anime night.

Dec 17, 2004 00:59

I am not very happy with our current system. Doing the math - 6 hours = 360 minutes. At 20-30 minutes an episode, if each person chooses 2 episodes, that should be 40-60 minutes a person. That's 6-9 people's worth of anime, and we got through 3 tonight ( Read more... )

As long as we're baring our souls and whatnot, let me be frank in a variety of ways ( ... )

Oh, I forgot to mention one other thing. If people like my proposal, I would be willing to increase my hosting of anime night to every week (if that's what people want) If we start watching shows in order, it will hold my interest a lot better, and I don't want to miss episodes.

Conversation with Truent2

(14:03:52) Restless Warrior: Hey Jake. Did you see Lucas's rant about last night?

(14:03:57) Truent2: i did indeed

(14:04:02) Restless Warrior: Did you see my comment?

(14:04:08) Truent2: no, i dont tend to read comments

(14:04:21) Restless Warrior: Oh, please read it, if you don't mind. I have a proposal for how to handle things. =)

(14:08:12) Truent2: um.. just to refute that lucas only shows up on time this is really my first actual late, and welcome to the club of people sick of no one else showing up on time

(14:08:23) Restless Warrior: I'm not sick of it.

(14:08:31) Restless Warrior: Actually, Lucas complains about it a lot, but it doesn't bother me.

(14:08:50) Restless Warrior: I mention it because it matters for deciding when to do the "grab bag" and such.

(14:08:51) Truent2: I think its annoying but the scheduling thing fixes that because if someone misses shit then theres no worrying whos seen what, go see it on your own time

(14:08:58) Restless Warrior: Exactly.

(14:09:44) Truent2: however you are ( ... )

To clarify, I was only mentioning 3 episodes per show as a possibility if for some reason we wanted to watch more than 2 episodes, AND if we only had four shows scheduled per night and the rest was grab bag time. Otherwise it wouldn't work.

Also, Chris and I were going to show up on time yesterday, but we were both so exhausted we slept for 10 hours instead. And honestly, getting sleep is more important to me than showing up on time for anime night, at least when we're watching the same shit over and over again.

I think that if we had a schedule and actually started finishing shows I would be much more eager to get there on time. With the way we have been doing it, it was all grab bag, and I don't so much care about that.

(14:11:39) Truent2: also.. i guess the bring 2 shows thing was my idea. We would sit for hours waiting for people to come and deciding on shows to watch. and the second problem was us never finishing everyhing. My solution was that if each person has 2 shows, then its not debated what we watch, and secondly the person whos show it was would force everyone else to finish the series rather than skipping around series so god damn much like we do

(14:11:55) Restless Warrior: I understand the rationale behind it.

(14:12:08) Restless Warrior: Does my proposal also solve those problems acceptably?

(14:12:22) Truent2: and finally my own complaint, Im sick to death of watching shit ive seen every week..

(14:12:28) Restless Warrior: Yeah, I know how you feel.

(14:12:45) Restless Warrior: That happened to me all the time at the old anime gatherings I used to have with a slightly different group. New people show up--oops, time to start the show over!

(14:12:47) Truent2: your system may solve that.. maybe not in the short run as i have to sit ( ... )

I think those refinements would work nicely. I think the more structure we put into this, the easier it will be to stay on track. I also like the idea of keeping Venture Brothers on the list until it has new episodes, which would then preempt other shows on the list.
