The movie The Help. I keep running into people, especially African Americans, who are all excited about watching it and saying it's so good and they love the book. I can't understand why they'd watch it! I hate historical movies based on that topic. It seems like ripping a Band Aid off of a partially healed wound. I still feel this racism. Or am I jumping at shadows? Someone tried to convince me to watch it but after they looked at it, they got back to me. Now they understood why I, as an African American, refuse to watch it and they could see why I would get angry. Other people of my ethnicity told me they didn't understand the fascination either. I was glad to see that others agree with me. I thought maybe I was being silly or something. My boyfriend and I like the idea since the beginning and we had a very supportive conversation from a complete stranger who felt the same way. Good thing because I was beginning to wonder if we were being stuck up or if we were in our own world of denial. Now I feel justified.
