I'm known to escalate like elevators

I've noticed a rather curious phenomenon involving elevators and more specifically their buttons. I notice that people are always pushing elevator buttons that are already pushed. It's lit up, you can see that it has already been pushed, why do people repush the button when it's clear that someone has already done it. I see it with the elevator

power. they do it to feel like He-Man. or She-Ra depending on their gender.. it's happened to me many times. you press the button, wait for the elevator.. some pathologist walks up, right past me, presses the button, walks backwards, stands smug in their exercise of power. or it could be doubt that the way YOU lit it is not as effective as they way THEY can do it. it's sad, really.
