1. I got a haircut tonight, and as I sat in the salon, I was mentally drafting a post about how much I hate getting my hair cut. I had plenty of time to do this, because my stylist was running half an hour late. I was hungry, I was tired, and I didn't want to be there.

I just finished Stephen King's On Writing. Good book. I usually need more than four days to read nonfiction, but King really held my attention. He sandwiched his writing advice between a short memoir of his early life and writing career, and an account of his recovery after a car hit him in 1999. There's a writing exercise that helps you overcome the fear of the blank page: You write for ten minutes straight. You can't pause to think of something to say or consider the right phrase-it's better to write "I don't know what to say" over and over than to stop. At Mass today I was the only choir member besides the cantor, Troubadour, and I sang the melody alone on a couple of songs so he could do the harmony. Everybody's been posting about NaNoWriMo lately, and loser that I am, I had no idea what the name stood for. As far as my real life goes, I got nothing done today. Not chores, not reading, not even a trip to the video store. But I can't really call it a lazy day. This weekend has been glorious. I've had no plans, no jobs, nothing hanging over my head. Of course, I did have some household chores, some of which I've done, but for the most part I spent my time reading and thinking. And writing.
