It's a small world after all

One thing I liked about travelling abroad was that I was unlikely to see any of the people I encountered on a day-to-day basis again. Yes, I LIKED that, because meeting entirely new people every day was fun and interesting, as much as I like constants of friendship in my life as well. When I returned home to Lethbridge, it wasn't long before the ( Read more... )

Sounds like Adelaide. There's no such thing as anything more than two degrees of separation there, either.

Just after I married my ex, I found out that I went to high school with his half sister. We were together for 4 years before I found this out and only found out because I invited her to a party at our house after randomly running into her at the shops early that week. When she walked in and saw that my husband was her half brother, she flipped out and so did he.

Lets go a little further on the "small country town" feel... My best friend's (Netti) now sister-in-law (Nat) met her husband (my best friends brother. Alister) because she was previously dating a guy in my theater group (Brian), who's brother (Clancey) I went to high school with, but I never met Brian until I join the theater group after I left high school. I ended up introducing Netti (best friend) and Nat (SIL) because I thought they would get along great. They did. She met Alister (Her husband, Netti's brother) who just happened to be best friends with her ex's brother (Clancey), who we all (Netti, Alister and I) went to school with, but Nat never met Alister until we introduced them.

If you don't get that one, I will try and explain it better :)

Hahah, that was a complicated one, but I think I get it!

As for your ex's half sister... did you just meet her in the shops and think she was cool, so invited her to the party? And THEN you found out that you went to high school with her, and she found out that you had married her half brother? :p

I sort of recognised her, started talking to her and then realised I went to high school with her. It wasn't until the party that I found out she was related to my husband.
