General life update

Jul 22, 2008 00:05

I just had a three-day weekend, which I really needed because I've been on the go for the last four weeks... working my day job of course, and then doing my photography or visiting friends on the weekends. I was in Canmore to see Carly the last weekend in June, photographed the equestrian portion of the Southern Alberta Summer Games on July 4-5, did some private portraits at the Amberlea Meadows hunter/jumper show near Edmonton on July 12-13, and went to the Crowsnest Pass to see the Thunder in the Valley fireworks show and visit friends this past weekend. Jeez, even if I wasn't crippled, I wouldn't have had time to ride!

Speaking of riding, I did make it out tonight (I axed last night in the end) and it was great to be back in the saddle. Santana took such good care of me that we even trotted and cantered a little! We just tooled around the yard, but he was on his best behaviour and so smooth. I swear he's always SO good after some time off, whether it be a few days or a week. Maybe he'll be sane by the time I get back from my trip down under! ...which, unless you're a real life friend of mine or friends with Maggie (zzrmags), you probably don't know about. We've secretly been planning to export me to Australia for a few months in the fall (mid-October). I'm sectioning off a maximum of six months to travel -- who knows if I will be away that long or if I will get homesick earlier. I've dreamed of this my whole life, but I really don't know how it'll play out til I get there, obviously. I'm going to hit New Zealand too. Tomorrow night I am having an Oz/NZ "orientation" with a local friend who's been there a lot, so hopefully that will help me figure some things out, since I'm really flying by the seat of my pants so far! Ah well, isn't that how this Sarah always rolls?
