I've got to catch up on posting before I get any further behind, but I can't ramble on too much, as my new bedtime is in half an hour due to starting my new job tomorrow. It's been wonderful running on a free schedule the last two weeks, staying up until I was tired and sleeping until I wasn't. A 2am bedtime and noon wakeup time really seem to be the best for me, but alas, that is not how the world works.
Last weekend, I finally got a haircut. Amazingly, in five years here, I have never paid for a haircut. Each year, a local newspaper puts out a book of gift certificates that you can buy for $60, and considering that there are several oil changes and haircuts in there, it pays for itself quite quickly. I'm not picky about my hair, so I've not only never paid for a haircut, but never been to the same hairdresser twice either! There have been some I liked and would go back to, but I've yet to run out of free haircuts until now. I had to pay for this one, and she did a good job, but I was a little peeved that she didn't tell me that she charged for blowdrying and styling... though I guess I should know that... but I don't, because my hometown hairdresser always charged $10 for everything AND would usually give me cookies!
It has layers and she straightened it, but it's so not staying like that.
I like it, but I don't have time for primping!
After this, I met Tanya and Hope (photo studio owner) at the Exhibition Grounds for the Windy City Tattoo Convention. We got in free as "press", even though Hope didn't even have a camera and had her baby with her, haha.
Baby's first tattoo:
So yeah, Hope's kid got an airbrush tattoo.
It's of an anchor cos he has Popeye arms. :p
"That dingo Lizardman ate my bay-bee!"
Cool dead bug jewelery. I'm a scorpio and thought this one would be neat,
but I don't think I'd actually ever wear it!
After this, I rendezvoused with
celticravenwolf, who used to live and go to school in Lethbridge. We never crossed paths here (although maybe she left before I arrived), but we met on LJ and had the opportunity to meet for real when she came for a visit from her new home in Regina, Saskatchewan. We had dinner with her friend Pam, who I ended up having met before (Lethbridge can never participate in the six degrees of separation thing, because we always get disqualified by degree two!). The rest of the night was, in
celticravenwolf's words, a bust. We went to a friend's house, which was kind of a drag, and ended up not going dancing, because the line at the bar was too long. I decided to call it a night, and as I drove across the parking lot, I saw these two girls in short mini skirts, walking in that ridiculous way that girls walk when their heels are too big for them. And in that instant, I thought, "I am too old for this." Of course I was never INTO the bar scene -- Tanya and I have only ever gone to dance on occasion -- but we don't even do that anymore (we only go to specific techno DJ nights... at least the girls there aren't typically bimbos). I guess I don't even feel like being NEAR people like that anymore.
Speaking of DJ nights, though, there was one on Saturday night and I was a little disappointed, as they played so much hip hop and rap that I hardly got any dancing in. They had lots of prizes, but were favouring their friends because they said, "The first person to get to the front wins this!" and would then ignore that person (me, in some cases) and give it to a person in the back.
Oh, and prior to that, I went out to a dinner thing at the watertower restaurant with a friend. Her bf couldn't come down for it, so I was her date, haha. It snowed a ton that day, so when we walked into the entrance, I stamped off my boots and yelled a cheery, "Merry Christmas!" and the dozen or so people there had a good laugh.
On Sunday,
celticravenwolf and I went for lunch and saw the move In Bruges, which I enjoyed a lot considering it was mostly a crime / drama (I don't tend to follow the plot in those very easily). It also had comedic elements, and horrible gore... what more could you want?
celticravenwolf wrote a great review of it
here.
Hmm... what else did I do last week? I wrote my last final on Monday, and worked my last proctor shift on Thursday night (though I am staying on the shift-swap list for the summer). I paid for parking at the university for what I hope is the last time, which pleases me immensely, as I have a deep-seated dislike of parking and security services there.
On Friday, I left for the weekend-long Mane Event horse expo in Red Deer, but that shall have to be written about in another post, as it is time for bed now.
