I am home in the Crowsnest Pass with my family for the weekend -- a rarity, since I usually don't have any days off in the week between school, work, and volunteering. We went out for supper tonight (also a rarity) for my dad's birthday... which is still a couple of weeks away, but he will be gone for it and I am never home, as mentioned. The Pass does not have much choice for sit-down restaurants, or at least quality ones. The one place we wanted to go was closed, so we went to a Chinese food place which was under new management. Their way of signifying this was simply tape a new sign over the previous one in front of the word "restaurant".
"Lunch Buffet!", "Dinner Buffet!", two posters exclaimed on the door, adorned with a cartoon pig in a chef's hat, excitedly pointing to the various offerings. We went in and were seated in an open area dining room. It felt very... public... but provided ample opportunity for people watching, which is especially amusing to do in a small town. There were your standard yuppies in sweat pants and track suits, lots of seniors of course, and your token obese fellow in a baseball cap, plaid shirt, suspenders, dress pants, and sneakers.
Our server came and took our order, sniffled, and apologized, saying that she had a cold. Great. The food was decent enough, however, and assuming she didn't sneeze on it, it wasn't a bad experience -- just a lack luster one... though we all agreed we wouldn't be found there again anytime soon.
I am bored and the Pass makes me sleepy. The end!
