OVERCHARGES AND UNDERCHARGES ARE THE SERVER'S RESPONSIBILITY-Continued springs1 November 3 2007, 06:29:00 UTC
“It's surprising you get any service with your cheap, demanding, 'hold the tip over their head' attitude let alone budget crappy service. No server is going to go out of their way for someone with your attitude, and your "type" is spotted a mile away ( ... )

Um, if the computer was updated BEFORE the menu, then you were NOT overcharged for anything. Comparing the prices does no good because it means that the MENU had the incorrect price on it. You were charged correctly because the computer always holds the correct prices.

This was 10 years but as a food service worker (who is in college working on a BIOMEDICAL ENGINEERING DEGREE and paying for it myself and trying to avoid debt I wait tables and such --> I say this because if you reply you seem like a person who feels that wait staff is less educated than yourself and that you feel that you are better than them because of this.) Computers are updated first. Always. They are updated almost weekly so that they don't break. When there are certain deals going on, restaurants often raise the price of other items to compensate. Legally, in the fun little contract that we deal with because each individual restaurant is controlled by a multi-million dollar corporation, we have to charge the price that corporate sets. End of story. No one is about to check everything against the menu because we can't do anything if it's under/overpriced. Also most menus have a little phrase at the bottom that says "prices subject to change" which legally allows them to do this. It's not us wanting our extra what, 3 cent tip? ( ... )

Here are some stories that I have had as to why I feel I am smarter than SOME of them and you should agree since I KNEW the MENU and HOW to do the job MORE than the SERVERS AND MANAGERS EVEN:

I had about a year ago or so to show WHERE on the menu something was to a MORONIC, LAZY, and UNCARING SERVER! I mean WHY should I have point out that there are TWO places on the menu to order tortillas and then he asked if it was more expensive, so I had to prove that to him to that it wasn't. Talk about an IDIOT!

I want to add, it's LYING to a customer to act like the price is $16.99 and then go ahead to preceed to charge them $17.29. That's just NOT RIGHT.

The computer is supposed to match the menu price, so if the new menus aren't there yet, GUESS WHAT? You have to charge the old menu prices. The new prices can only legally be charged when the menu prices match the computer prices.

Now if the price is an undercharge, which I have encountered a few times, I don't have to bring that up, because that's NOT my responsiblity.

Also, shouldn't the customer have EVERY RIGHT to know "HOW MUCH" something is ***BEFORE*** ordering it?

If the computer price is higher than the price on the menu, that's up to my SERVER to discover that so I DON'T have to. The server then would tell their manager and get it fixed BEFORE giving me my check.
