A/N: It's not who you think it is, don't want to say too much. And this is completely random because it came to me one evening and has been urging me to write it. My first fic for the PriWriMo. All errors are mine. I don't own anyone from Primeval, just saying that.

It wasn't that she didn't like Jess, she did, she liked her a lot and the two had become friends since she and Connor had returned. But she wasn't ready for anyone at the ARC knowing her secret yet, especially a certain person, not that she thought that Jess would go around telling everyone, she just didn't want anyone to find out. She was not naïve enough to believe that no one would find out, they were going to find out eventually, but she wanted to make sure first before telling him or anyone else.

When she first realised she was late she just put it down to stress, the last few days had been pretty stressful and at first she put it down to that, expecting to get her period any day, but when she still hadn’t gotten it seven days later she realised that it might not be due to stress as she’d first thought but something else entirely. Later that morning she’d rushed out to the nearest chemist and bought six pregnancy tests and locked herself in the ladies so she could take them without being interrupted. Glad that at least she was somewhere he wouldn’t be looking for her, even if she hadn’t locked the door.

The waiting had been the hardest part and what had felt like hours was in fact only minutes. She’d sat there several minutes after the time was up psyching herself up to take a look, not really sure whether she wanted them to be positive or negative. But she’d looked only to confirm what she had already known deep down, or at least suspected. But it was still a bit of a shock to see that all six were positive. She’d even bought one of those fancy digital ones, the ones that just had ’pregnant’ or ’not pregnant’ and this one was definitely saying ’pregnant’.

After she’d taken the tests she’d made sure to get rid of the evidence, making sure no one found them. Though even if someone happened to find one of them they wouldn’t know who it belonged to, but Abby didn’t want to take any chances. She’d left the ladies and spent the rest of the day avoiding him, much to his confusion, he’d even rung her later on that evening to ask if everything was ok and she’d brushed him off, telling him that everything was fine and that she’d see him in the morning before promptly hanging up.

She had felt guilty the moment she’d hung up, but she knew that if she’d spoken to him longer then she would have felt compelled to tell him and she wanted to make sure first before she told him. Not wanting to mess him around. She’d booked a doctors appointment earlier in the day after taking the tests and spent the next few days until her appointment trying to distract herself and not think about it too much. But that was pretty much impossible considering it was on her mind constantly. But she didn't avoid him, much to his relief. He knew something was wrong but she kept reassuring him that everything was fine, she was just tired, not that she thought he believed it.

The morning sickness had kicked in shortly after the tests, as if to prove that she really was pregnant if she hadn't believed the six pregnancy tests she'd taken. And she knew that people would start suspecting something, if they hadn’t already, and that they’d be asking questions. She'd already had Jess walk in on her in the ladies while she was throwing up and asking if she was alright, and having to quickly claim it was something she'd eaten and that she would be fine in a couple of days. Though whether Jess believed that or not she couldn't be sure, but she hadn't called her up on it so Abby assumed that for now Jess was buying her possible food poisoning story.

Her friend Kaitlyn had agreed to go with her to her doctors appointment, and Abby was glad she had someone with her for support. Kaitlyn Donovan was Captain Becker's girlfriend (they'd been together over five years) and he'd introduced them one evening a couple months after she and Connor had returned from the Cretaceous, the team had gone out for drinks, and Kaitlyn had met up with them after work - Abby later discovering she was a nurse and worked in A&E at St. Luke's - Abby found herself liking Kaitlyn from the start and the two soon became friends. By the end of the evening they had exchanged numbers, promising to arrange a girls night out sometime.

The appointment had gone pretty well and the doctor, a Dr Claudia Brown, who could pass for Jenny Lewis's twin, if she actually had one, the resemblance was uncanny and apart from some slight differences they looked a lot alike, had confirmed that Abby was indeed pregnant but she wasn't sure how far along exactly she was, guessing that it was around 9 weeks but that she couldn't be sure. She later had another appointment where she discovered exactly how far along she was and when she was due. She was 9 weeks and would be due on the 6th September, but that they couldn't guarantee it would definitely be that date.

After the second appointment Kaitlyn had invited Abby over to hers, promising that there was a pint of Ben & Jerry's Cookie Dough in her freezer with their names on it. And after the removing of shoes and jackets and after Kaitlyn had grabbed said ice cream and two spoons the two of them had settled on the sofa and began chatting in between mouthfulls of ice cream.

'' Are you going to tell me who he is '' Kaitlyn asked gently, not wanting to push her friend into saying something she didn't want to. '' That's if you want to ''

Abby was silent for a moment or two and Kaitlyn wondered if she was going to keep it to herself for the moment who the baby's father was, but moments later Abby broke the silence and told Kaitlyn who the father was. She'd met him a couple of times and he seemed like a nice guy and if she were being honest with herself, he was pretty easy on the eye, but she didn't feel anything for him, she was with Hilary and she was happy, extremely so.

She soon found herself telling Kaitlyn about everything that had been going on between her and her baby's father, that it had been going on for several months and that she was pretty sure she had feelings for him but wasn't sure whether he had feelings for her and that was why she'd not told him. She wanted to think that what they had meant something to him but she just didn't know. And now she was pregnant with his child. She had hoped to maybe find out if he loved her and talk about marriage before even contemplating children. But obviously the universe had other plans.

They continued talking for a couple of hours, the conversation shifting to Kaitlyn and her relationship with Becker. Abby wanting to know the story of how they'd met and how they'd gotten together, laughing a little everytime Kaitlyn said his first name. Now knowing why he'd never told her what his first name was in the 3 years they'd now known each other. She still couldn't believe it was that long, and just thinking about it made her think about Cutter and Danny and Sarah and Stephen. She paused awhile as she thought about Stephen and what could have been, but she pushed those thoughts to the back of her mind. It wouldn't do any good thinking of things like that, and she'd moved on anyway and found someone else. But he'd still be a friend and she still missed him.

When Becker returned almost an hour later, Abby decided it was time she went home, not wanting to intrude on them and needing to be alone right now to think things through. She had a lot to think about.

'' Is everything ok Abby '' Becker asked, following her to the door. He'd known her awhile now and knew that something was bothering her, but he couldn't tell what it was. '' You know you can talk to me...to us ''

Abby nodded and smiled at him, touching his arm in a friendly gesture as she answered. '' I know, and everything's fine. I've just got a lot on my mind, I'll be ok though. But thank you ''

She answered, quickly hugging him before leaving the apartment. Leaving Becker to stand in the doorway a few seconds, determined to get her to open up to him and tell him what was bothering her. He would, eventually.
