Thunder.
She heard it in the distance, past the white gauze curtains and the frosted glass of the balcony doors. Or was that the roar of a hovercraft's engines pushed past spec?
Delicate hands cupped her face, a throaty voice called her out of the darkness. She struggled weakly against the weight atop her, piercing her, until at least the bars through her chest faded. But there was still someone warm and heavy atop of her, making it hard to breathe, making it hard to think.
The voice in her ear, the flutter of breath against her earlobe-
It was wrong.
Lightning.
It crashed through her mind, blazing-bright and painful, flooding her with the crackle of ozone.
Her eyes snapped open as the whole world turned to electricity.
"Sssh, sssh," That voice soothed, those hands on her face comforted. "All will be well, all will be fine. I have saved you."
She saw the other woman in streams of green code, and she screamed. The sound came out as the screech of a modem heard over a land-line.
